***OFFICIAL BETHUNE-COOKMAN SEASON OPENING IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I remember reading a short story about Mary McLeod Bethune in elementary school. I think she founded a women’s college, which later merged with Cookman, the men’s college, to become Bethune-Cookman. This offseason was probably the least interested I’ve been in Gopher basketball in 10+ years...

New Marcus' article - get past rebuilding stage

Is it the norm to lose 10+ players during coaching changes now? Did Penn State lose all their players after Pat Chambers was let go? Just off the top of my head, Indiana held onto Race Thompson and Trayce Jackson-Davis after firing Archie Miller, granted Indiana basketball probably has big NIL...

New Marcus' article - get past rebuilding stage

Depends on if you count the exodus of players around the time he got here. From a pure talent perspective, losing Marcus Carr, Liam Robbins, Gabe Kalscheur, Brandon Johnson, etc. right off the bat and having to bring in like 10 players in ~5 months probably wasn’t making it easier to win early...

***OFFICIAL MACALASTER AT MINNESOTA EXHIBITION IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Is there even a radio broadcast feed of this game? If there is, I’m struggling to find it.

Gophers 3.5 point favorites vs Illinois

The fact that Fleck's Minnesota was favored against Bielema's Illinois the last two games and lost both is maybe a factor in this line. I'd have to think Bielema's winning streak against Tim Brewster and Jerry Kill while coaching at Wisconsin has little to no effect on the line.

Chip: Gophers have always found ways to lose to Iowa. Now they badly need a win.

Yup, Iowa and Wisconsin have been tough to beat precisely because they DON’T have down years. Iowa was 4-8 in 2012, and that’s probably the worst season either of them have had in 15 or 20 years. During their 14 game winning streak, I don’t think Wisconsin was ever worse than 7-5, and it...

    Big Ten Mess....I mean West

My concern is that our offense might not be a great deal better than Iowa's, and we need to hope Darius Taylor and Zach Evans hold up the rest of the season. Although maybe Iowa's offense becomes exceptionally awful going the rest of the season with a backup QB and TE's. Rutgers and Nebraska...

Fleck Monday Press Conference on "The Call": “No controversy about it”

He said we got called for this earlier this season; does anyone remember when this was? If it was an attempted punt return that was immediately blown dead for invalid fair catch signal, then probably not a very memorable play, just curious if anyone knows specifically which play he’s referring to.

Gopher historians ? What is OUR largest comeback victory ?

Not big comebacks, but I feel like I remember Mitch Leidner leading a few game winning drives when there's maybe 3 minutes left in the game and we're down by more than a field goal. But those were probably mostly against middling conference opponents like Purdue or Illinois or maybe some MAC...

After Gophers paid $800,000 to bail, series against North Carolina back on

From what I remember, Kill backed out of the North Carolina series, then we did a series with TCU, who was stronger than North Carolina, one year later, and got most if not all of the money back that we paid to UNC.

Who voted for who in the AP Top 25

What games were those? Season opener in 2020 against Michigan. Purdue game in 2022 when Mo was out. Can’t think of the third, unless we were still ranked in week 2 of 2020 after losing to Michigan. I didn’t think we got ranked in 2021.

Gophers dominance over Nebraska: 37-25 overall, 7-3 in last 10, 4 in a row

I knew Northwestern was somewhere around .500 against Wisconsin and Iowa since the turn of the century. Ryan Field has been a bit of a house of horrors for Wisconsin in particular. From 2003 to 2020, Wisconsin went 1-6 in Evanston, which is weird given how strong Wisconsin was for most of that...

Minnesota Gophers Football: What If the Gophers Win the B1G West + Debating Phil Steele's B1G Ranks

Yes. 2022 Nebraska vs. Northwestern in Ireland or wherever was a week 0 game, as was Nebraska/Illinois in 2021.

TSN: College football predictions for 2023 bowl games (Transperfect Music City Bowl: Texas A&M vs. Minnesota)

I think I said it in a previous bowl projection thread, but I think a reasonable outcome this season is we go 7-5 or 8-4 against a tough schedule, and then after 8-4 Wisconsin, 8-4 Iowa, 7-5 Maryland, and 6-6 Nebraska all get slotted in better bowl games, we get placed in Detroit again to...

    Most memorable Gophers football win?

Absolute meltdown in the game thread after Nebraska blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown. So many people declared the game was over and they were shutting it off to go rake leaves or something. As apparently one of the only people who kept watching, I quite enjoyed the ending :)
