Final Power 5 Non-Conference Schedule Rankings: Gophers finish #75 of 82

They do have Marquette, Villanova, and Syracuse, though. Those are decent tests and better in quantity and quality of P5s than what we know about MN's noncon. I don't think the average NCSOS is as important as getting a couple wins out of those 3. Do that, then 10 wins in conference might be...

All Things Gophers 2024-25 Schedule Updates

There was a time in my lifetime that both UTEP and Arizona State were in the WAC with New Mexico - they are traditional regional rivals. The rivalry with NMSU is actually much uglier than anything we experience - like murders based on it, and this is within the last couple of years. I’m actually...

Final Power 5 Non-Conference Schedule Rankings: Gophers finish #75 of 82

The event that Rutgers is in over Thanksgiving gives $1m in NIL to each participating school. It also has the possibility of conference foes meeting as the B10 and SEC each have 2 teams in it. Anticipating Eeyore There Pilgrim caring enough to post that he doesn't care...

NCAA Tournament to include two new metrics beginning in 2025; committee delays decision on expansion

This is mostly true, I think. But playing the scrubs in garbage time isn't going to materially affect your overall efficiency because they're probably only playing around 10% of that games' possessions. The risk of losing a rotation guy to injury in a blowout is not statistically worth the...

NCAA Tournament to include two new metrics beginning in 2025; committee delays decision on expansion

If you find it boring, maybe sit this thread out. The gophers are a college basketball team. Seems like understanding how college basketball works is pretty relevant. Also provides evidence of why pussyish scheduling dooms you.

NCAA Tournament to include two new metrics beginning in 2025; committee delays decision on expansion

This is mansplaining, but you know the tourney isn't just the top 68 teams. The auto-qualifiers from mid majors are often well outside that ranking. You usually have to at least be in the top 50 and have some quality wins to get an at-large berth. I would also recommend looking at Wins Above...

NCAA Tournament to include two new metrics beginning in 2025; committee delays decision on expansion

We have some people - well, maybe one person - on the forum whose main Venn diagram intersection with "Gopher fan" is "I know everything, everyone else is stupid/a geek, and it's a conspiracy".

NCAA Tournament to include two new metrics beginning in 2025; committee delays decision on expansion

Respectfully, I like having a mix of both. Resume first, though. The predictive stuff can help "break ties" when there aren't obvious differences in resumes. However, this stance does end up favoring high major schools.

NCAA Tournament to include two new metrics beginning in 2025; committee delays decision on expansion

As a big devotee of t-rank, I'm thrilled to see Torvik get this sort of validation. Adding WAB is interesting. MSU was actually negative in this stat (-0.19) last year and 56th in the final rankings. There were 8 schools that were left out of the NCAAs that were ranked higher than MSU in WAB...

Most Revenue Generated Men's College Basketball in 2023

Makes you wonder what counts as "revenue generated". Rutgers was also in the 100% of arena capacity and not in the top 50 (Rutgers is a public school, btw). Let's look at schools in metro areas with NBA teams (often cited as a deterrent to attendance) 100%: Nova 95%: Houston 90%: Marq, Miami...

    Cam Christie to the Clippers

It's obviously not what it used to be. There's only two rounds now, foreign players get drafted a lot, and there's a g-league for those that don't wanna play school.

Gophers basketball adds two walk-ons to 2024-25 roster

I would think unlikely these guys see the floor against non-Gophers except in the last 30 seconds of a blowout.

How do you plan to cheat at basketball, too? Conor Stalion?

The Big 10/18: How Will It Shake Out?

I appreciate you taking a stab. I mean, who knows? Some thoughts (with no evidence) I really haven't followed the 4 newcomers enough to slot them at all. UCLA is supposed to be good, I guess. I don't know who I put #1, but I'm not on board with Purdue sans Edey. Scottie Pippen and Dennis...

The Big 10/18: How Will It Shake Out?

Nebraska also lost Tominaga to graduation, did they not? I don’t know much about the replacements, but he was THE difference for them - the player at the top of the scouting report.

NCAA Basketball: 10 coaches who will face the most pressure entering 2024-25 season (Ben Johnson, Minnesota)

I think people should brace themselves for the likelihood that the preseason prognostications will put the gophers somewhere around 15th - perhaps even lower - in the conference. Maybe I'm wrong. But, for the sake of argument, let's say I'm not. Do you believe CBJ would be solely responsible...

NCAA Basketball: 10 coaches who will face the most pressure entering 2024-25 season (Ben Johnson, Minnesota)

It is guaranteed to be a near full roster overhaul due to eligibility being exhausted for most of the players.

Shama: Gophers Sit Tight on Ben Johnson’s Contract; U says MBB made $5MM last year, $2MM less than potential; MBB has "north of $1MM for NIL"

It's not a threat to say that you make the tournament at .500 in conference if you play a decent nonconference schedule. That is simply a true observation. Wisconsin was, I believe, 11-9, but had wins over Marquette and Virginia and losses against Tennessee and Arizona. MSU was 10-10 and had all...

Shama: Gophers Sit Tight on Ben Johnson’s Contract; U says MBB made $5MM last year, $2MM less than potential; MBB has "north of $1MM for NIL"

“I’ve talked to Ben about if we go .500 in conference play, we’re going to be in the NCCA Tournament more times than not if you play a decent nonconference schedule." This is the lead. Translation: stop being a pussy,
