    Fire Ben Johnson

The Holmgrens and Suggs types aren't going to be staying here and really don't stay home in any state around the country any more. Hardly any of the best players on the blue bloods are homegrown. Regardless of the next coach, that ain't changing any time soon - and really the state isn't...

A qualifying list of potential replacements

This is a 2023 list and at least a couple of those have moved on - i realized that when I got to McNamara, who I’m pretty sure is a low major head coach now (yep, Siena).

Name one thing this team is good at...

Not sure how you sorted this - USC is still a worse defense. Doesn't change the thesis, though.

Shama: If there is a change in Golden Gophers basketball head coaches after this season, St. Thomas’ John Tauer should be a level one candidate.

It might be true that no other big school would hire him, but this type of resume (especially championships at a lower division) makes me look twice and not rule him out so fast. There will be safer and inside-the-box traditional candidates (probably). I’m not sure those will actually be better...

Shama: If there is a change in Golden Gophers basketball head coaches after this season, St. Thomas’ John Tauer should be a level one candidate.

That all makes logical sense from a Tommie POV, but it's wishful thinking. Any Summit League coach offered a B10 job is probably leaving - unless perhaps that Summit League job is on track to becoming a Big East job....

Dennis Evans - Is it time to recommit?

A lot of us saw red flags from the beginning. This is about what I expected, injured or not. Bullet dodged.

***OFFICIAL MICHIGAN STATE AT MINNESOTA IZZO LONG POST-GAME HANDSHAKE WITH JOHNSON, POST-GAME PRAISE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

The ignore button is a wonderful thing. Maybe you-know-who would stop incessantly making basically the same post if no one responded. Coaching matters.

***OFFICIAL MICHIGAN STATE AT MINNESOTA IZZO LONG POST-GAME HANDSHAKE WITH JOHNSON, POST-GAME PRAISE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I agree it's only part of the story. I suspect the terrible shooting by Patterson - at relatively high usage, too - is the primary reason why the offense looks (and is) worse when he's running it. I'll also repeat, though, that Asuma's metrics are not very good, regardless of the eye test. He...

***OFFICIAL MICHIGAN STATE AT MINNESOTA IZZO LONG POST-GAME HANDSHAKE WITH JOHNSON, POST-GAME PRAISE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

This chart would say Patterson should not be shooting the ball (look at EFG - effective FG%). He has nice assist and turnover percentages - Asuma does not.

If you were Asuma...what would you do?

I would assume there’s a new coach - if not, then he’s likely a big reason for the performance being good enough to retain the current one. I’m going to ignore that scenario as unlikely. The new coach will have to re-recruit him. Asuma can probably see without entering the portal what his worth...

    How low?

I think Coyle might have a “today list” but there are coaches who emerge over the course of the season (as well as those who - submerge?). It’s too early to know the right replacement, IMO. It doesn’t matter that much when you let the current coach go, though - it won’t make the search easier...

    KenPom Preseason Top 100 - MN #59

Torvik: MN #110, UST #128 Also, with the caveat that it's still early for all of this, Torvik has 15 B10 teams between #10 (IL) and #52 (NW). Last year, only 7 of the then 14 teams finished the year above that, and if you add the 4 newcomers, only one made that threshold - Oregon, who was...

***OFFICIAL MICHIGAN STATE AT MINNESOTA IZZO LONG POST-GAME HANDSHAKE WITH JOHNSON, POST-GAME PRAISE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I have seen more MN than MSU, but yes. MSU is more talented/athletic than skilled, and that is especially a problem against teams that are equally talented, That does not describe MN, of course. However, it's their first away game and things happen.

I have a feeling this ends up as a W. No logic. It's hard to win on the road in the B10.

Conference Challenges and Start of Conference Play Highlight the Week Ahead in College Hoops

You're right. I never watch games and don't enjoy them. How did you know?

This seems like a long-winded deflection to being incredibly wrong about BGSU.

Conference Challenges and Start of Conference Play Highlight the Week Ahead in College Hoops

The trouble with this is that seeing one game can often give you a distorted impression. How you play over the course of all your games gives you a better sense, and no one can watch all the games of all the teams. For example, Bowling Green apparently gave it their all against MSU a couple...
