Mike Rhoades (Penn State) our new guy in “Comparable 4”

Yes, it was unusual but it's certainly not impossible that the 11th or 12th team could have a winning record and possibly be NIT bound next season. Yeah, this site has some insightful people. It also has its fair share of cranks, jerks, lazy knee-jerkers, and a few trolls too.

If by "folks" you mean a bunch of people who post here, my reaction is "Who cares?" Again, I think it depends upon the overall record. Technically, Wisconsin finished 12th but they had a 17-13 regular season record. They lost their first BT tournament game but went 3-1 in the NIT to finish...

Gophers in CSUF G transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr. top 3

What are our chances? Better than you think, I'd say (>10%) since this guy would have received a pretty fair amount of interest (more than 3 schools, that's almost certain) and we're in the final 3. His dad played at Creighton I believe. Yes, Lincoln is much closer to Omaha than Minneapolis...

2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

What are you talking about? No one here wants practice players on scholarship while there are still open roster spaces that need to be taken by productive players. However, not all recruits are clueless. They can see if you have a crowd at their positions. So, if you already have two players...

It definitely shouldn't be a one-man job. I hope all hands are on deck this offseason including some grad assistants doing monitoring and updating.

I guess what we have to hope for is that our major competitors run out of roster spaces. There are other guards out there who have entered the portal but haven't committed yet who are worth a serious look. If you're talking about Matthew Cleveland from FLA ST, I don't think there is a chance...

Mike Rhoades (Penn State) our new guy in “Comparable 4”

Well, if our coach's team finishes behind a team that has 3 scholarship players on its roster and no incoming freshmen as of April 12th, then that's pretty much an open-and-shut case. Even 13th place would be close to that. Perhaps an 11th or 12th place, depending upon the actual record, might...

STrib: Gophers men's basketball team can't wait to unveil redshirt freshman Kadyn Betts

I guess we'll know in 11 months give or take or earlier if he gets injured in summer practice.

Well, you probably answered your own question. We're cheapskates, they're not, at least not this time. I suspect that going to the finals of the Big Ten tournament and going to the NCAA tournament and winning a game gave them a rare taste of success in the sport and they thought they might try...

I wonder if Ben & Company dropped out of the race. At least there aren't any Big Ten schools listed there. Entering the NBA draft also adds a big element of uncertainty and a long delay. You have to wait around until late June until the player makes a decision. I'd probably be tempted to...

Mitchell is a true point guard though. Andre was a point guard in name only.

I think Wrightsell is my number #1 choice but I'd be just as happy with Claudell Harris as the #1 remaining recruit. I would have liked Daniel Ortiz as the #2 remaining recruit but I guess that won't happen. Even if Johnson gets Wrightsell or Harris, he should get another scholarship guard...

Yes. You're getting into the Anthracite coal region.

Mike Rhoades (Penn State) our new guy in “Comparable 4”

Yes, he would have been exactly the kind of coach who should have been hired at a Big Ten school. He's a PA native though (grew up a little over two hours east of State College) so PSU may have been a preferred landing spot for him.

Mike Rhoades (Penn State) our new guy in “Comparable 4”

Yes, he has a good background of accomplishment but he has a tough assignment this season. He was able to get one of his VCU players to commit recently but that leaves him with only 3 scholarship players on the roster so far. I believe PSU's freshmen recruits de-committed so I don't think he...

That's not what I heard him say. He said that he wanted to pick up another big if for nothing else than practice. "Bigs" are a little different from other players. Hard to find 6'10" walk-ons. At least you could try to be honest and not twist words to fit your agenda.

Iowa State got a very coveted player. Iowa appears to have gotten a good one too but they'll need more than him to replace what they are losing. Illinois also got a good one and they now have two transfer commits.

I didn't insult your profession. I have nothing against lawyers. I worked with quite a few of them over the years (although most of them weren't litigators) and mostly liked them. The point was that message board disagreements don't have to be fought to a resolution.

Big Ten transfer recruiting so far. Michigan leads the way with 3 commits I don't think any other conference team has more than one. Per my inspection, Iowa, Rutgers, Northwestern, Nebraska, and Michigan State have no commits. Surprising that Nebraska is in the "0" category so far as Hoiberg...
