General public, sure. But ask any bearded, flannel-wearing, hipster drinking a sour at a local craft brewery to name the best album ever, and I guarantee someone says NMH. I would then parlay the bet that they can't name the actual album.
Ok, now let's do albums! What are your five most overrated albums?
1. Trout Mask Replica - Captain Beefheart. I saw a review that said you need to listen to it six times before you "get it". F--k that. That's just your cognitive biases kicking in and your brain tricking you into liking it...
I have a new #1 overrated band: Neutral Milk Hotel! I just don't get it. It's like they're purposely playing their instruments poorly. I think namedropping NMH is just a way for hipsters to sound hip.
I'm right there with ya on 80s hair bands. What has nine arms and sucks?
But I also think 90s grunge is also overrated.
Though I don't think either has aged well. Do people still listen to that stuff? So...accurately rated?
A couple exchanges between my ex-wife and me:
Ex-wife: I love...
I really wanted to like it given the cast. But it is BAD. Like, how is this the final cut with all that talent. I checked, and it has like a 75% approval rating. I just don't get it. Comedy is like music I guess.
Hmm... Stephanie Says is probably one of my favorite songs (the strings, xylophone, lyrics, ebb & flow, softer tone than other VU songs) just an all around beautiful song.
I think we both can agree Lisa Says is the worst of the "says" songs. :)
Yeah, we all could tell you were hoping to draw some fire. :ROFLMAO: Stephanie Says coincidentally came on as I was driving home last night. And I thought, what a lovely song; Pompous Elitist doesn't know what he's talking about.
