Field of 68 Projection: Conference Season Is Just Around The Corner

Yep. This is a great way to explain it. Totally different than the Pairwise rankings in college hockey which are meant to directly compare teams.

    Other Gopher Coach Candidates records

Gates, Dutcher, and Smith were the only on this list given serious consideration. The others weren’t really a part of the search for a variety of reasons.

    College Basketball 2021-2022 Thread

Tennessee-Texas Tech one of the uglier games I’ve seen in a while. Especially considering they’re both supposed to be solid. Going on 8+ min without a field goal by either team. TT dude just air balled a free throw that was at least a foot from hitting iron

MN HS Basketball will add shot clocks in 2023-24 season

Yea, it’s certainly doable, but not as easy as some think. You aren’t pulling someone off the street and giving them 30 bucks with zero training to come in and do it every night.

    Maryland fires Mark Turgeon

What’s really dumb about that line of thinking is that in college the coach is also the GM responsible for bringing in the players.

MN HS Basketball will add shot clocks in 2023-24 season

Personally not a fan of this. I hope the MSHSL is going to help with the cost for some of the smaller schools to buy/install these. At least buy them in bulk and then sell them to the schools at cost. It may not be a huge initial cost to many of us, but it is not insignificant for many of these...

    Maryland fires Mark Turgeon

Wonder if there would be a Kevin Warren/B1G ban on Sean Miller a la Greg Sankey/SEC on Hugh Freeze. Not entirely the same situation, but there are still a lot of issues with Miller

    Maryland fires Mark Turgeon

Seems like there has to be something else going on here. That or Maryland has a Nebraska football-esque feeling about their program.

2021-2022 College Football Coach Hire/Fire Thread

If any of that is true. His realtor in Norman already said that the part about USC buying his houses in Norman isn't true.

Lincoln Riley USC contract details: $110MM, 24/7 use of private plane for him and family, USC buying his 2 homes in Norman for $500K over asking

FWIW the tweet that started this thread was from a pretty random person, and apparently the part about USC buying his homes in Norman is not true. As far as the other details provided in the tweet…who knows if they are true or not.

He’s going to pay a lot more in taxes in CA and was already making $8M per year. Do you really think OU wouldn’t have matched? If Mich St can give Mel Tucker $95M, then OU can surely come up with $110M

    Lincoln Riley to USC

What you say about Norman vs LA isn't wrong. I've never been to Norman, but I don't think of it as a small town. I'm sure you are correct that Norman/OKC is much more football-crazed than LA. As I said in a previous post, I wonder if that wasn't actually a positive for Riley. At USC he's still...

    Lincoln Riley to USC

I said something like this in the hire/fire thread, but just to throw my two cents here as well...I kind of wonder if Riley didn't like being the king in Norman. He was probably one of the most well-known guys in town, and wasn't able to go out in public very much without attracting attention...

    Lincoln Riley to USC

LSU is certainly a pressure cooker, but there are also lots of advantages. And their last 3 coaches have all won national titles. Without looking it up I'm still positive no other FBS program can say that. And most coaches end up getting fired, so I'm not sure I'd say they are unique in that...

2021-2022 College Football Coach Hire/Fire Thread

The Lincoln Riley move is an interesting one. There seem to be some rumors that he wasn't happy about the move to the SEC. Surely makes more money for the athletic department, but also makes his job a lot harder. IMO there is also something to be said about the quality of life in LA vs Norman...

    College Basketball 2021-2022 Thread

UCLA is a good team. There is a lot of hype around them largely because of how they finished last season. But don’t forget that last season they barely made the tournament, and were a Mich St meltdown away from losing in the First Four. Again, not saying they shouldn’t be ranked at all, but...

That Maui final is really weak compared to past years. Notre Dame won it and then didn’t make the NCAAs a few years ago, but that one is an outlier.

Coach K laying down the law…..😂😂😂

Banchero got in trouble because a (barely) drunk person drove his car - that's it. It's more than likely going to get reduced if not dismissed altogether. If the same thing happened in many other states he wouldn't have been charged with anything. So it makes sense for him not to get anything in...

2021-2022 College Football Coach Hire/Fire Thread

LSU might be the best job in college football. It’s certainly top 5. Sure, it’s a pressure cooker, but most jobs that pay $8M per year are. The last 3 coaches there have all won national titles.

Shama: 5,503 public season tickets have been sold, a 20% drop from 2019-2020 last time fans could attend

Decided not to renew my tickets this year. It wasn’t really one thing, but more a combination of many factors that have been discussed here. I would usually go to about 75% of the games with my dad, my wife, or one of 3-4 different friends. Either sell or give away the other 25%. My friends all...
