Clem had name recognition. But even he decided to rebuild starting with with recruiting & development.
A first-time coach like Ben definitely should proceed this way. Instead of transfers...like bringing his current team to his new job. And he's doing it...he already has a 5-star on the way.
I would NOT have brought Bobby Jackson in to play with Clem's first freshman team. Or to take minutes away from Kevin Lynch the following year.
Oh sure, we would have improved our 2-16 and 4-14 conference records. But then Jackson's gone...and our Sweet-16 team has far less experienced guard...
Recruiting high school kids and giving them playing-time...to build a winning team when they're juniors & sophomores...is still the same.
This Clem-model should still be the same strategy...especially for a new first-time coach. Giving playing-time to upperclassmen still takes away minutes...
No, it's not so much different than when Clem was here. A coach should still be given a chance to develop his first 2 recruiting classes until they're juniors & sophomores.
I 100% guarantee that you same guys would be blasting Haskins.
Does Penn State have any 5-star recruits on the way?
And playing 4 seniors DOES take away minutes from developing freshmen.
Like Clem, I'd rather be bad now and aim for being great in 2 years. Rather than like Penn State aiming for mediocrity.
This thread on our 5-star's great game quickly dissolved into more trashing of the team.
It's hard to believe you guys are Gopher fans. And don't say you are if it's only of women's sports.
All 4 are seniors. 2 on Penn State the whole time and 2 one-and-done transfers. And Penn State is still unranked.
I'd rather try a Clem Haskins style rebuild with developing freshmen and good recruiting.
This conversation is getting off track.
I think Ben should have a chance to develop his first high school recruits who are currently freshmen. And add his 5-star & other good recruits to them.
You obviously disagree and will say anything to trash Ben.
Is this more of the OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS that I've been assured, in bold, that takes place on here?
Ah, okay...now I get it. Wet_Blanket_Guy and others...ok they're 'Gopher' fans...of women's BB & VB. Hostile towards men's BB.
