I don't believe anymore that the administration wants to win. Anymore than I believe movie studios and television networks want to get ratings. They all make their money by spewing propaganda. Winning too much at Minnesota...or movies or tv programs saying too much...would bring the hammer...

Coyle is right on top of the situation. Strategic and analytical with the metrics. Assigning value not only to buckets...but measuring classroom attendance, graduation potential...Coyle is having conversations with other programs...conducting research...Coyle is facing these issues head on...

I admit, I should have had my head examined about 20 years ago. I was wrong for only enjoying winning. And not understanding why people made a day of barbecuing, tailgating, socializing, and not caring about the actual game. They were right, I was wrong.

Back in the Haskins days...when we were either very good or gearing-up our young players to be very good in a year or 2...this conversation wouldn't exist. There was never any concern whatsoever about a mid-major.

And NO...going Luka on the crowd...using filthy language and acting thuggish towards the fans...isn't the same as McHale-Rambis. In fact, it's extra cringe, annoying, and stupid. Not competitive.

It also becomes hard to identify with, root for, think of him as representing me and my state....guys scoring 4ppg making $10M/yr. The best players...it's fine if they're icons. But when everyone, even the scrubs, are super duper rich...and all patting each other on the back all the time...

I'm for free markets in everything...except games. The other side is against free markets in everything...except games. I mean who wants to play games (basketball, Monopoly, whatever...) against someone who pulls out real cash and just buys everything up with bribes. That's not fun.

Let's face the facts head-on. Recruiting is totally irrelevant. Yes there will be resistance to this new reality. Some will say that there's a better chance a recruit sticks around than if we had no previous contact with him. But that is false. Clearly. For instance, just look at our team...

A better creative way would be to hire pro players.
