Marquese Williams in the transfer portal

Preface by saying I have ZERO idea whether Williams will ever become a serviceable FBS player. That said, I’m bummed about this. He was highly recruited and had some great offers out of HS. I wish he would’ve gotten a little run towards the end of the year as I find it hard to believe he would’v...

Good call. Like most years, we’ll wait to see how it all plays out on Saturday…follow every shred of news…then still likely have no idea until 3 or 4 pm on Sunday, lol!

    Gambling Corner, Week 10

Brother, you started betting against MN at exactly the right time! Congrats on tossing aside the maroon colored glasses and laughing all the way to the bank. I did well this season but. Mostly avoided MN. My betting units are much smaller than yours, but I about tripled up on CFB.

The Athletic also predicts Quick Lane vs. Northern Illinois. Seems likely at this point unless one of the scenarios plays out above whereby the B1G regains the Reliaquest but keeps OSU and PSU in the NY6. That would probably put Minnesota in Nashville or Vegas much to the dismay of those bowl...

Chip: The Gophers football regular season is mercifully over, and it can be stated unequivocally that the campaign was a pig.

Didn’t read it, but there’s no way to sugarcoat how bad this season was. It was just about the worst case scenario in every fashion: wins and losses, player development (esp QB), depth, inability for coaching staff to adjust on the fly, etc. The only thing I feel better about than I did at the...

    Quarterback

This is a HUGE part of it, IMO. If I'm a DC, I sell out to stop run with nosey safeties, run blitzes, man or zero coverage, aggressively crashing edge players opposite the RB, etc., because... 65% of the time you're making the right decision The WRs aren't fast enough to consistently pop the...

    Already bowling (likely)

There you have it. Been waiting for some kind of statement from one of the schools, and although this is about as unofficial as it gets, at least it’s something. Make your Christmas travel plans for Detroit everyone, lol. As for there being too many bowls, Burns mentioned on his pod last...

That’s the aforementioned New Hampshire QB in case others are wondering. PJ wasting ZERO time and I’m here for it.

ESPN Schlabach predicts Quick Lane vs. Ohio Bonagura says Guaranteed Rate vs. Iowa St, but that won’t happen for many reasons. He only predicts this b/c he has a B1G team in Tampa AND OSU in the Orange Bowl which is impossible.

Yup. This has been said elsewhere, but OSU and PSU are almost certainly in the NY6. If one is the Orange (HIGHLY likely to be OSU), the B1G loses Tampa and you’re left with 6 games (Citrus, Nashville, Vegas, Phoenix, NYC, and Detroit) for 6 teams (Iowa, Maryland, NW, Rutgers, Wisconsin, and MN).

Fleck needs to examine every facet of this program

The sentiment is spot on, and I truly hope there’s significant changes next year. I’m doubtful, both because we know PJ is super stubborn and believes in his system AND because we lack significant resources/NIL, but here’s my wishlist: Demote Wenger and hire a proven ST coach. Make Iowa your...

Hawaii just sent Minnesota to a bowl game in crazy fashion

Yup. This. The B1G wants to fill its games, so despite how unclear the Navy situation is, I think that’s why everyone assumes MN will be bowling. There could obviously be some NCAA bylaw to prevent that, but I’ve not seen one thus far. Perhaps if Nebraska and/or Illinois had won we’d have a...

2023-2024 College Football Coaches Hired/Fired Thread

Yeah, I’m shocked. Not because I think Allen is incredible (he’s competent), but that money is eye watering for a program like IU. I’m surprised they didn’t instead sprinkle that amount towards assistants and/or NIL — assuming most of it is covered by boosters. Just doesn’t seem very smart to me.

Hawaii just sent Minnesota to a bowl game in crazy fashion

It apparently happened once in like 2009. A bowl selected 6-6 UCLA contingent upon 5-6 Navy losing the following week. They did, and UCLA went to the game. Still, I think most low level bowl games want to avoid this since they need to start advertising the game and allowing fans to make travel...

    Already bowling (likely)

There’s a lot of confusion online about whether Navy can get eligible and I’m not seeing any clear answers. The NCAA has probably already contacted both MN and Navy, so hopefully that info gets shared more widely. Conventional wisdom is that bowls are free to select on 12/3 since many of the...

Hawaii just sent Minnesota to a bowl game in crazy fashion

That is WILD, lol! Kudos to that FG team for getting set — and especially the kicker who didn’t even have time to think. But how in the world did NOBODY on that coaching staff realize they were in bounds and have the awareness to tell the QB to spike it?! Malpractice, lol.

Strack: PJ Fleck Must Find Quarterback He Can Trust in Offseason

I haven’t crunched the numbers, but to my eye Athan looks a lot better when the offense plays with some tempo and lets him think and create on the fly. The stale RPO, milk the clock to 2, and run the play confirmed or signaled at the last second just doesn’t suit his style IMO. Even going back...
