    All Things Gopher Baseball

I like the ACC tourney format over the SEC format. Every team gets at least two games, only 4 teams suffer 2 losses, and a maximum of just 4 games in 4 days doesn't thin out the pitching so much. In regards to the 30 game schedule, I would like that more if the season started a bit later than...

Iowa coach Rick Heller said in a recent news article the Big 10 will move to a 30 game conference schedule next year, with protected opponents each season (guessing that means Iowa and Nebraska for us). Sounds like divisions were desired but they were told that wouldn't be happening in any...

Gophers hang on to win in 14's final game. Bench was emptied and seniors were featured as Bork and Jurgella combined on extra base hits to score an insurance run late and Gross got the final out for the save. Congratulations to Coach Anderson on an amazing run and 1390 wins.

    Keinys to Pacific

With Freeman transferring there, that makes 2 Gophers heading to Stockton in 4 years.

Gophers roll in game 2 thanks to a pair of six run innings and pretty solid pitching. Perry with a 3-run HR to blow it open. Would be nice to see Gophers win the series, top their conference win total from last year, have a winning record, and get Anderson a victory in his final game tomorrow.

That was a rough one. Felt like two losses between the HR in the 8th and meltdown in the 9th. After the Neels HR I thought there might be some magic this weekend. Bummer.

Another local media guy (...can't remember, maybe it was Shooter...) also previously mentioned Raabe would also likely be on the short list, so would not be surprised if he is indeed the next coach. The only other name I have heard of candidates being considered is a D2 coach. I get this isn't...

It really was a pretty epic comeback. Kudos to the squad!

Offense was held in check and bullpen tagged for 5 runs in final two innings as Gophers lose game 2 despite a solid start from Weitgrefe. Fun environment with big crowd coming out for the jersey promotion and nice contingent of Nebraska fans traveling in as well. Unfortunately, another loss.

    All Things Gopher Baseball

Tough start to weekend, as Gophers drop game 1, and Ohio State, Michigan State, and Maryland all win. Defense once again was an issue as Gophers committed 3 errors and a passed ball leading to 4 unearned runs in the 5th. Gophers rallied to tie it at 6-6 but bullpen touched for 4 runs in final...

    All Things Gopher Baseball

Gophers get back to .500 in sweeping the midweek series with St. Thomas. Last night, they overcame 3 early errors and 5 run deficits on a couple of occasions and chipped away, and relievers worked out of jams to eventually win in extra innings. Tonight, they cruised as offense scored in first...

    All Things Gopher Baseball

Rough start to the weekend, as the Gopher bats were silent (3 hits, 16 strikeouts), Semb with another shaky start (5+ innings, 9 hits, 3 walks, 6 earned runs), and throw 2 more defensive errors onto the pile. A Berklund HR and 4 scoreless innings of relief from Hemmesch about the only highlights.

    All Things Gopher Baseball

The Gophers sit at 15-16 overall, and 3-6 in the Big Ten (alone in 11th place). With series left against Penn State, Michigan State and Northwestern, there is still a path to a top-8 finish, but a series win against Indiana would make that more likely. This team just doesn't look like one that...

    All Things Gopher Baseball

The Gophers sit at 2-4 in the league after splitting the Saturday doubleheader. Gophers got the big hit to tie it in the first game, then immediately fall behind again thanks to shaky defense and a bullpen that has been leaky in last 5. Weitgrefe was outstanding in second game and Counsel...

Lop-sided loss that was over early today. Their hitting and pitching were much better than ours. Starting pitching needs to step up...hope it starts tomorrow.

    All Things Gopher Baseball

The Gophers sit at 10-10 overall as they start conference play today at Iowa. I know just a couple games can skew results, but the Gophers are batting 30 points higher than the opposition, 100 points higher slugging, and a full run better in earned run average. The weather looks good for today...

    All Things Gopher Baseball

Gophers take the series, with another big offensive performance, to win 12-6. Hokenson with a 3 run HR and followed it up RBI single to break it open. Hunt also with a pair of doubles...a lot of offense overall again today. Weitgrefe was a bit better than his line, and 18 total Ks for...

Good to see the offense pick up the pitching staff today, and for the second time in three games rally for a win. A series win is definitely there for the taking.

At 18-14, will the Gophers make the NIT?

Their bracket is now updated and projects us to be 8 seed and play at Indiana State.

    Official March Madness Thread

If memory serves me right, there was a year the committee forgot that stipulation and had BYU in a Friday/Sunday bracket, and then after it was released realized the mistake and had to state that would switch them with another team if they won or something crazy like that (though I recall they...
