I graduated from West 16 years ago. I knew 5-6 kids that went to MVL just from my small North Mankato neighborhood.

Some really good athletes from that team. Their QB Gosch will play hoops at MSU-Mankato next year and WR Madson will play point guard at Sioux Falls. Both will be Mankato East's all time leaders in passing and receiving after this fall.

I think this is the year we finally might see it in football. East has had more success than West in almost every other sport the last 4-5 years.

It's early but this looks to be the best team Mankato East has had in quite some time. Have a real shot at getting the Jug back from West for the first time since 2005.

I saw Waconia beat STA by 4 TD's. They might be the best team in the section.

Mankato West lost quite a bit from last years team but still think it's them or Chanhassen coming out of section 2. Andover will be a tough test for them tonight.

Are there any state rankings or preseason polls out there? Would think they would be out by now but I haven't seen any.

Love to see it. Pretty unheard of that some kid from Esko or Jackson is the best player in the state in any sport.

I don't think there have been many, but it seems like any MN kid that has been a D1 hockey and football recruit, go the hockey route. Paul Martin, Anders Lee and Mark Alt are the few that pop into my head. Worked out pretty well for those guys.

Two of the best QB's in the state are juniors. Nick Kinsey of Stillwater and Mason West of Edina. Both have a few D1 offers already. Roman Voss of Jackson County Central is another junior QB who is a 4 star recruit and has big time offers from Cal, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Wisconsin and...

For 5A Mankato West should be solid again but they will have a sophomore QB. Chan loses a ton of players from last years state championship team but assuming they will reload. My guess is Andover will be at the top of the preseason poll.

What's the deal with Lombardi leaving Maple Grove? Gotta think Minnetonka is a short term stop until he takes over another program. Great get for Esch. Lot of wins in that coaches room.

Only two weeks away until we kick off the high school season with two a day practices. Curious to know who the favorites will be in each class to compete for state championships and who the top players in the state will be this season.

Knew JCC was really good but didn't expect them to throttle Caledonia like that. Roman Voss might be the best player in the state for his class. Saw he recently went on a visit to Iowa State. Plays QB but assuming he projects as a TE/LB-DE at the next level. 6'4 210 as a sophomore.

Yeah slim chance this kid stays home with offers out there from Ohio State, USC, Florida State and Michigan. Hope I'm wrong but I sure wouldn't blame the kid.
