I still think the firing was a premature overreaction to the godawful first 3/4 of the Penn State game in the tournament. That looked like a team whose coach deserved to be canned, until things started looking a lot -- but not enough -- better. I, too, think Whalen deserved more than a year with...
She was at a small school that lost a lot, which could be a factor. And she started late. Still, a promising project and it's not like the Gophers need her to start from Day One.
Not to belabor it (which I guess I am) but what happens in the moment is what happens in the moment. Clark's subsequent, considered comments have been thoughtful and appropriate. Reese's have not.
Couldn't even stand to watch the game. I accidentally taped the annoying Diana/Sue-talk-over-it version and, by the time I watched, it was too late to get the regular version.
Just rewatched the MN/Duke elite eight game. It suggests what Whalen -- who was brilliant but also took wild shots, made too-flashy passes and over-penetrated -- saw in Borowicz.
I've definitely watched my recording of it more than any other game. (My screen name here could also have been Alanna Beard's Tears, but that seems much too mean.)
Not advocating that the Gophers absorb her energy but VT's Ashley Owusu seems like she'll be available. Again. She could not look less engaged as she rides the bench.
