    Ajok Modal Enters Portal

I was very intrigued by Madol's potential. You can tell that Madol had some athleticism but Ajok also appeared, strangely, uncoordinated. Almost like watching a newborn fawn taking their first wobbly steps... you just know that they will be bounding across a field in no time. Madol got limited...

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

Universities can't shell out cash to anyone. It bugs me that people still think that the U is somehow making the calls on NIL. NIL is supposed to be handled by entities outside of the universities and colleges. I have no doubt that some universities are more materially involved but the...

NIL and portal destroying college hoops

I'll take a stab at that. The coaches are employees so they are subject to the terms of their contract. Most contracts are clearly written to detail what can/can't happen if the contract is voided by either party. Most coaches would never sign a contract requiring them to sit a year if they left...

    Go Get Musselman

We literally have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. Payne might have recommended the he come off the bench to get some time to feel out the officials and the game. Ola-Joseph may have been as lackadaisical in the classroom or in practice as he was on defense during games and failed to...

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

There are about a number of threads over the last couple of days that state that Payne, Ola-Joseph, and Carrington believed that they could make more bank elsewhere. I'm not going to reread all of these threads to find the reference for you. Players transfer for playing time every year- even...

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

Where did anyone say Ben had issues with anyone? You make up a lot of shit to berate the coach of our team and program because you didn't like the hire from day one. The players can't wait to get out for moolah and playing time- pure and simple. That is not an indictment on Ben in any way. You...

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

The players were unprompted when talking about the culture of the program and how much they care about the team and their teammates. This wasn't some sort of softball prompting from the media. As for the results, this squad far exceeded expectations this year. The team has no quit- coming back...

Dawson was pouty for having family issues at home and leaving NC mid-season?

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

Why would a player talk about the positive culture of the team unless it were true? That's not something that young people readily whip out in conversation. The culture within an organization is not always visible to an outsider. A couple of two-hour games per week that we see is just a small...

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

To be successful, NIL has to be grown exponentially not 5% this year and 5% the next. Little donations from Ma and Pa Kettle in Mora aren't going to get the job done. Numerous players have talked about the great culture that Johnson has established here. Coyle hired Johnson with the idea that...

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

The whole landscape has changed since the advent of NIL. We care about the team but we need mega-fans to REALLY care about the team to move forward. We can't build an NIL package for a whole team of legit players using a bake sale. We need 6, 7, and 8 figure donations to compete. Minnesotans...

Take a deep breath, it’ll be okay.

None of the coaches you mention move the NIL needle. You could resurrect Wooden and we still aren't in the same stratosphere as other teams with mega-fans willing to throw millions of NIL at the wall to poach players.

    Go Get Musselman

Sorry... Neither of these 2 are bringing any NIL bobos with them. Papa Muss coached here at the 'U' 50 years ago and Eric joined him with the T-wolves in year 2 (1990-91). Any serious local excitement in the Muss name has long since passed.

    Go Get Musselman

I'm being a little unfair as they did get the NIT title in 98. I was just disappointed in the quality of the recruits brought in following the success of 97. They went from several Mr. Basketballs to some fairly pedestrian talent other Przybilla. A friend and I had season tickets those years...

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

NIL isn't tax deductible. The institution isn't supposed to be part of NIL. Name, Image, and Likeness is not supposed to be 'pay for play' but this has been overlooked. I'm counting the days until I see the first Pharrel Payne television ad for Jim Bob's Toyota in Lawrence, Kansas.

    Go Get Musselman

The universities aren't/weren't supposed to be part of the NIL negotiations. That seems/seemed to be the only real 'rule' out there regarding NIL.

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

Sadly, this is just not true. Minnesotans are just wired to get into bidding wars to pay amateur college athletes to play for their home university. The U could hire your dream coach and the NIL will increase slightly but not enough to prevent poaching from rabid fan billionaires supporting...

    Go Get Musselman

For what its worth, Clem didn't exactly capitalize on the Final Four run before the Ganglehoff scandal. The team the next year was a shell of the 96-97 team. I think that Clem would have had modest success but not likely caught lightning in the bottle again.

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

The lack of guidance and sideboards surrounding NIL has ruined college sports for me. My interest in NCAA D-1 athletics is near zero under this 'system.' There are no major donors here in MN who will step up to the plate under this sort of wild west scenario to donate to NIL. Most Minnesotans...

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

Why would any ANY AD risk paying a coach big time money without solid NIL backing? It would be illogical to waste legit department dollars to hire a coach when all it takes is for the sleazy money to come in and lure players away.
