Bishop nice play! I hate seeing Sori-Marin out there on passing downs. Striggow that would have been nice.

    Tanner Morgan injury watch thread

Glad the coaches are being careful on this. Tanner will be missed and I am hoping we see a good offensive approach that gives young Athan or Kramer a chance to win. Hoping the team can play a good game tonight.

Gophers open as (+6.5) point underdogs at Penn State

Amen. It’s weird how many posters on the board have been apologists for that terrible defensive performance.

Is Athan Kaliakmanis ready? | Gopherhole

You mean when he came in for Annexstad in 2018? He clicked immediately even though the game was Rob Smith’s last game. I think Morgan was really calm and sharp though

    Interesting comparison to another program

Yes, and MSU played soft zone and the receivers caught every damn ball. Purdue and Illinois both played press man and took our receivers out of the game with physicality. But yes the LOS has been huge in both losses.

Remaining path to win the west

Thanks Swelna. Looking forward to the rest of this season still for many reasons. We have seen Fleck's teams get hot and rattle off Big Ten wins before. A win at Penn State would be a great first step.

    Interesting comparison to another program

Can we ask opposing teams to run the same defensive scheme as MSU :) ? Hopefully Kirk can make some adjustments because Purdue and Illinois took away what he was trying to do with the passing game.

What to do with Tanner Morgan

Morgan has been a winner and is still gives the team the best chance of winning. The receivers have stunk along with pass protection the past two weeks.

Post Game Thread: Gophers lose to Illinois

I think Rossi’s defense usually has the secondary playing zone probably to help with run defense. Purdue and Illinois both played physical man (with Illinois holding a lot). I don’t think the Gophers currently have a good enough front 7 to play man.

    The sky is falling

PhiloVance you know the LowDown (not sure if your moniker is an REM reference), but the NIL arrangement has made it harder for Minnesota and it’s frugal fan base to compete.
  16. WorkingMyTailOff

What is wrong with the Gophers defense?

When the safeties are making that many tackles on running plays it means the front 7 are losing. Give credit fo Illinois for a great game plan and great execution. Rossi’s game plan did not work and he didn’t adjust.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS BOUNCE-BACK IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

yeah could be scheme or just really good Oline play. Gophers linebacks seems to make very few plays, while the Gopher safeties were saving touchdowns. It was a big ask for this Oline to not have a big drop off from last year while replacing 4 of 5 starters. The right side just is not there yet...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS BOUNCE-BACK IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Yeah man. They got the guys back that were questionable, are really good on both sides of the ball, and played a mistake free game. Hats off to them. I don't know how the Gophers fix the right side of the line and receivers. Illinois shut down the only reliable wideout in Daniel Jackson today.

If we get the ball back without them scoring can the offense pick up the tempo? No shame in picking up the pace when down two scores.
