    B1G Game 5: Gophers visit Wisconsin (1-8-23)

The U is a college basketball wasteland. Two really bad programs. Frankly, it's pathetic.

    #3/2 Gophers vs. badgers

No doubt the boys have had plenty of fun at the Badgers' expense over the years. Here's hoping it continues this weekend. 😁

    Realistic season predictions

None. That's how many expectations there should be. But if I had to set just one expectation, it'd be to expect lot of losses for the foreseeable future.

    Gophers @ Sun Devils

    Rinse, repeat.

This team is fun on paper, but why does it look so bad? | Gopherhole

The department as a whole is loaded with mediocrity. Make of that what you will, but there isn't a lot to cheer about.

This team is fun on paper, but why does it look so bad? | Gopherhole

Not sure why anybody is surprised. The roster is a mishmash of transfers and pretty lightly regarded freshmen with a coaching staff literally learning on the job. It was inevitable that there would be issues. My advice would be to check-in a few years from now and see if they've improved from...

    All Things World Cup Soccer

That's gonna be a really tough game. England has world class players all over the field while we're still young and learning. Getting any points there would be huge heading into the Iran game.

    All Things World Cup Soccer

The American football analogy of playing prevent defense on one side and making conservative play calls on offense on the otherside of the ball is apt since it relays more of a mindset than anything else. Simply sitting back and absorbing pressure does no good, especially since it allows the...

    All Things World Cup Soccer

This is where you question subbing Jordan Morris instead of Gio Reyna. Reyna is clearly a better, more explosive and gifted player. But Berhalter decides to essentially sit on a one-goal lead with a playmaker like Reyna (who says he's ready to go) sitting on the bench. And it comes back to bite...

    All Things World Cup Soccer

Everybody is shocked I think. Especially considering the form Argentina had been in heading into the tournament. Certainly makes Poland-Mexico (and the rest of the group overall) more interesting.

Improving, but still plenty to prove.

    The sky is falling

Nope. I totally got it. Why? Because it's always something. More so than just about every other power five school. So whether it's not enough money, not enough resources, bad geography, lack of local talent or just plain bad decisions, this program (along with men's hoops) ALWAYS find a way to...

    The sky is falling

Yep and was barely making or missing the NCAA Tournament along the way. Also got smoked on the regular against instate opponents while attendance disappeared. The program was a sinking ship in the later years under Lucia.

    The sky is falling

If you want to pretend the program was in good shape when Lucia left, feel free. I whole heartedly disagree.

    The sky is falling

Of course not. But it's much closer to reality than any of their other marketing approaches.

    The sky is falling

So, in other words, I'm correct. And to top it off, we should accept and embrace the mediocrity because we're us. Thanks for the input.

    The sky is falling

Got news for ya, this isn't a fans problem. It's a departmental and administrative problem.
  18. M

    The sky is falling

Exactly. And also waits to make a change to men's hockey until the program becomes completely irrelevant on the national level before he convinces Lucia to "retire." As a follow up, he then hires Whalen to coach women's hoops (without ANY coaching experience at ANY level), and the results have...

    The sky is falling

What I'm saying is that regardless of the coach, Gopher sports almost always fail to excel. I'm not advocating for Fleck being fired. And even if I did, it's not up to me. It comes down to Coyle and the administration to put expectations on the revenue sports to succeed. And for the most part...

    The sky is falling

No. I'm simply saying Fleck looks an awful lot like coaches of the past (recent past, ie...Mason). And considering the utter malaise of Gopher football for six decades, the pattern of mediocrity is so inherent and it's become expected to the point of inevitability.
