Reversing the call in the Michigan game wouldn't guarantee victory, but you could smell it the way it was going. Where would this team be ranked with a 7-1 record?
I tend to believe that the stellar play of Koi Perich is playing a part in the current betting line. Illinois is going to have a tough time making downfield throws.
When Bobby Petrino was hired to be OC back in late November, he wanted to see if Drake would be willing to flip, but he stuck with his commitment. If Petrino was hired sooner, things might have turned out differently.
In the two series he played of the Rhode Island game, he looked more capable than AK did at any point last season. As long as Drake stays healthy, I don't think PJ wants to risk losing him in the portal.
I guarantee if Koi played HS ball in a football hotbed or at a high profile academy, he would have been a top 50 ranked recruit. He flies under the radar a little being a player from a small school outside of Duluth, MN.
I think Drake is good enough to lead the team next year and has great upside potential. It would be foolish for PJ to go after another starter quality QB in the portal and risk him transferring. This sentiment doesn't seem to be shared by a few on the board.
In the limited action that Drake has seen, to me it looks like he makes throws Athan is unable to. Has good touch on the short passes and sets his feet well on deep throws. With his measurables, NFL scouts will be watching him as he continues to develop.
