USC DL Bear Alexander plans to redshirt the remainder of the season and enter the transfer portal

This is the exact reason why our current system is a mess. Because we all have to pretend that the players are not getting paid by the football/basketball programs, it's nearly impossible to create a system that makes any sense. This is why UNLV's comment was so annoying. We all understand it's...

    Be honest!!!

Of course that plays a part in it because that is EVIDENCE that he is a good coach. That isn't everything, but when you look for evidence/data/reasons to believe something, you typically analyze things that happened in the past. It's really hard to measure things that have not yet ocurred...

    Be honest!!!

How is it possible to analyze anything without looking at the numbers (ie the distant, misty past)?

    MINN/MICH Betting

It's now 35.5. That seems pretty low to me.

    Be honest!!!

I think BB is probably a better coach than Fleck, but I'd prefer door #2.

It appears an undefeated college football team ranked in the top 30 of the AP Poll just lost its starting quarterback ... because of an NIL dispute.

This entire charade is only possible because we are all pretending that this would also be against the rules.

I don't think it was likely that UNLV was going to ever pay the kid the $100K. However, I don't think the promises made by some coaches ever match reality.

100% this. Great post. The NCAA cannot, legally, do pretty much anything. People blame the NCAA because it’s some amorphous entity ruining sports when in truth it’s the courts and schools.

I think that’s actually like the likeliest scenario. If that’s how it played out, the coach made an offer thst he could not fulfill and the player relied on that promise, I don’t blame him for leaving.

I have no idea who is telling the truth with the UNLV and Sluka story, but this statement is absolutely BS. We all understand that he was given his scholarship and we all understand it's against the rules (and potentially the law) for UNLV, itself, to offer money. That said, we all know it's...

No one would. It's an awful way to do business. I'm just saying that it's still a contract, proving it is just difficult. Oral agreements do have obligations to pay, it' s just difficult to prove the contract. As far as an attorney taking a case based off a disagreement about an oral agreement...

Verbal contracts are binding, they are just harder to prove. If you believe his side of the story, the obligations were not met. As far as getting it writing - I agree completely. Even if he wanted to go on the cheap, he could get a lawyer to look over a contract - write a contract for $500-$600.

UNLV also lied to him to get him to move across the country and play football for them. The assistant coach who made the promise likely thought that he would have no recourse (out of eligibility).

You'd be a puss to keep playing for a school that lied to you about $100,000. If he was offered $100,000 to go to UNLV and they tried to "call his bluff" by not paying him because he would be out of eligibility, then he should quit the team.

Roll call of everyone who is done with this program

I think true Gopher fans quit the team about 2-3 years. If a Gopher fan tells you they’ve never angrily told their friends “I’m done with this bleeping program”, then I don’t trust them. It’s part of being a Gopher fan. For those of you leaving, I understand your pain and we welcome you back...

    After 25 years… I’m out

Who cares? The fact that people in Europe don’t like football doesn’t make me enjoy it any less.
