All Things Class of 2026 Minnesota Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

I would have to assume that we will very rarely ever see an early HS signing again (more than a year early) with where NIL is at. Most kids will want to see what the roster they are going to join looks like

All Things Class of 2025 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

Nah. Secret games, the ones no fans can see- those we schedule against top 25 teams.

What grade would you give the 2024 Gophers basketball non-conference schedule?

    F. They so rarely offer the fans a good home non-conference game. It's all about the money they can collect and nothing about competing to be great. After close to 40 consecutive years of holding season tickets- I am done. I'll always be a fan and will go to games but I am done supporting this...

Jason Kemp interview w Stephen Bardo

Really good rundown of our roster by Jason Kemp. He seems pretty excited about Frank Mitchell, brought him up first among the transfers. Good things on Betts and Asuma. You get the feeling that other than Garcia, no other star this year but a lot of solid players who can help. Says Femi is a...

All Things Class of 2025 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

If you have competitive NIL funding and a coach who has a good relationship with his players you have a better chance of keeping your players than losing them. Last year we just did not have the funds to keep the guys we wanted to keep. Carrington and JOJ were let go. Payne was the only HS...

Minnesota Basketball: Why Lu’Cye Patterson is the most important team transfer for 2024-25

Nice article. It's the Big 10 (or Big 18) not Big 12 but a good summary of the situation. I do think that Cochran may be just as important as Patterson.

Shooter: Buzz about a remodel of Williams Arena could diminish now that the Gophers athletics department could end up having to budget some $22MM

Better players! It has been my position from the start of NIL that the AD should tell donors to help buy players above all else. They were slow to do it. My post was a question- not a comment.

Shooter: Buzz about a remodel of Williams Arena could diminish now that the Gophers athletics department could end up having to budget some $22MM

He appears to have given 350 million to National University in California, but he might be done here.

Shooter: Buzz about a remodel of Williams Arena could diminish now that the Gophers athletics department could end up having to budget some $22MM

So..I guess that the reality is that the budget is pressed because they are directing donors to buy players instead of donating to the athletic department?

Mike Mitchell giving people the behind-the-scenes facilities tour! (Video)

They are. If you ever get a chance to get a tour- take it. The facilities are top notch.

Video: Ben Johnson calls 2024-25 Gophers 'deepest team that I've had, not close'

Give Sp. No! a little credit...this is one of his actual first basketball related posts on the basketball board!

Video: Ben Johnson calls 2024-25 Gophers 'deepest team that I've had, not close'

This should also be a physically tough team as compared to last year. We brought in some bruisers replacing finesse players in Christie and Hawkins. Odukale, Patterson, Cochran and Mitchell are all big physical guys at their slots.

Video: Ben Johnson calls 2024-25 Gophers 'deepest team that I've had, not close'

This was the best set of questions I have seen reporters ask him and he responded well. I would have like to heard him talk about the defense and the need to be a lot better than last year on that end. Interesting that he felt this team could handle a tougher schedule than last year's team so...

Big Ten Basketball: 2024 offseason grades for each team (Minnesota Golden Gophers - Grade: C)

Sure they do, just not at this level. That's the mystery. Ben has done a good job of getting guys to perform a level up- but this is a mass makeover. I am pretty optimistic but we have to really, really be good on defense to make the tournament.

Big Ten Basketball: 2024 offseason grades for each team (Minnesota Golden Gophers - Grade: C)

Ouch. We are a total wild card. If we don't play some of the best defense in the league, we will not be good- that is my uneducated guess.

Q&A: Get to Know Gopher Men's Basketball's Frank Mitchell

This is great but I would really love to see our reporters ask more basketball specific questions. These aren't perfect but just off the cuff: - how do you see yourself fitting next to Dawson Garcia? - what type of player do we expect to see when you are out there? - what are you seeing in this...

Is This Ben's Best Ever July Roster?

True- I forgot about that and that's bad because all four of our weak FT shooters are in the 6-7 to 6-11 range. That leaves Garcia, Grove and Betts as the other guys with size for late game situations and only Garcia is a proven player.
