Yahoo Sports: Always Rivalry Week: Iowa, Minnesota, and one of college football’s great trophies

I love this. As much as I am not a fan Ferentz he knows how to win and coach his team. It feels like every year they are a better team in November than they are in September.

This Iowa game is a BFG

This is actually a perfect recap of the Minnesota/Iowa rivalry. Hope his score is wrong - but both teams HATE beating each other and will try nearly everything to lose the game. Lots of fluke plays in the past - best running back in recent school history having a career game and fumbles in the...

Fantastic column from Chip: Football Across Minnesota: Chip Lohmiller, our most-famous kicker, now plays quarterback

It always surprises me that people live normal lives after they hang up their helmet. Reminds me of being a kid and seeing your teacher at the grocery store... like a "you live a normal life too?" moment. Would be fun to have some alumni recognized every game. There is enough of them...

Fleck doesn't think last year's fair catch fiasco adds any juice to Iowa showdown

I don't think he was comparing North Carolina to Iowa. I think he was comparing the Iowa 2024 game vs. the Iowa 2023 game, etc. I think just the fact that it is Iowa vs. Minnesota, Floyd of Rosedale, National TV, etc adds all the juice you need. The whole return and invalid fair catch call is a...

Tennessee to add 10 percent 'talent fee' to ticket prices to raise money to give to players

Oklahoma State wanted to do it. They wanted to have a QR code on the back of their helmet, but the NCAA decided they would put their foot down on this. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/41070382/ncaa-bars-oklahoma-state-placing-nil-linked-qr-codes-helmets

Tennessee to add 10 percent 'talent fee' to ticket prices to raise money to give to players

Sounds ridiculous but no different than what we do. I would much rather have my mandatory donation go towards NIL than whatever scholarship program it goes towards. It is hard being a fan. In my entertainment budget I have Gopher tickets plus a mandatory donation. Add in a few 100 dollars for...

Gophers 63rd best team in the nation per The Athletic Rankings.

That may be accurate on the season as a whole but I really like the way the season is progressing. Offense has been playing offensively vs. defensively. How different would the season feel if we make 1 of the 2 field goals vs. North Carolina? 3-0 sounds a lot better than 2-1.

    Koi cheering section

Every time he is on the field it just feels like a big play is about to happen. Watched him play safety and ran about 40 yards across the field to stop a Nevada receiver for a short gain on a 3rd down yesterday. Quickly becoming my favorite Gopher!

Which Team do you hate more Iowa or Wisconsin?

I hate the Packers more than Iowa and Wisconsin combined. I can’t stand Iowa. Seems like their traveling fans are the worst… interestingly enough I have had great experiences in Iowa City.

2024 MN High School Football thread

That is exactly what I was thinking as well. Transportation costs are through the roof - especially when you have to split teams/programs to get the games in.

2024 MN High School Football thread

Not sure if transportation is being used as an excuse to justify the move, but I'd be willing bet that transportation costs is the most expensive part of any athletic budget in the metro area.

    Gophers Week 2 Uniforms.

Think of all the knee injuries and football... they are almost all ACL, MCL, PCL, Knee Dislocation, Miniscus, etc. A knee pad isn't going to do a single thing regarding those injuries.

Gophers football missed whopping 22 tackles in loss to North Carolina

Potentially. Blitzing is a gamble. When you blitz you have to do 1 of 2 things... get the sack or alter/rush the pass. When blitzing you are down a man in coverage so if you don't do 1 of 2 things you are essentially playing 11 vs 10. Part of the missed tackle issue (not 22 missed tackles) was...

Shama: U Football Season Ticket Sales Down, But Sellouts Likely

Would love to know the history of our season ticket holders. Curious what it was in the dome vs. the Bank, how the scholarship donation affected season ticket holders, etc

P.J. Fleck on struggling offense: 'This isn't backyard football'

I was talking to my dad after the game and I told him I don't know how on 3rd and goal you don't take a shot to the end zone. It doesn't have to be a pass... but if you are 3rd and +5... there aren't a lot of run plays that can get you a touchdown. Our kicker is good - he proved that last...

P.J. Fleck on struggling offense: 'This isn't backyard football'

Maybe our offense would be better if he treated it like backyard football. I wish I would take an account of how many deep passes we throw. I know we threw one on Thursday night and it was a pass interference and we got a free 15 yards. I used to be an offensive coordinator for a local high...

Why is nobody talking about the defense?

Absolutely agree with you on both of the excuses for missed tackles and I agree with you that there will probably be some more missed tackles than the years past. Our defense was much more aggressive. That is not a knock on Rossi's defenses, just a different approach. What will make or break our...

Why is nobody talking about the defense?

I was impressed with our defense. We had too many missed tackles but I am hopeful this will be cleared up with more game experience. I told my season ticket group this... our offense is so bad that any time our defense makes a mistake it is magnified.

I am convinced his biggest opponent is our offensive coaching staff.
