All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

Ihnen had a fairly undistinguished first game with Liberty. He started but had 4 points (1 of 5 shooting and 2 free throws), 4 rebounds, and 4 fouls. Liberty had 4 players in double figures though and beat Valpo by 20.

Which QB would you rather have starting for the Gophers on Saturday?

Every Christmas season I buy a small fruit cake because...well...I don't really know.

Which QB would you rather have starting for the Gophers on Saturday?

In other words, the critical differences are above the neck. I think Athan is a better athlete than Max but the advantages stop there.

Which QB would you rather have starting for the Gophers on Saturday?

Sure, but I don't see the point of rubbing it in. We all know by this point in the season that Gopher fans are much happier after the transfer than they were before. The only thing I wish Max could do as well as Athan is run but I'd rather not see him risk injury.

    Bye Week Schedule Out

I think there are some games worth watching there: UCLA v. Washington, Nebraska v. USC, Rutgers v. Maryland, and maybe even Mich St v. Illinois. I was travelling during the last bye week and enjoyed watching the games in my hotel room that Saturday (especially the Mich State upset of Iowa)...

    Daniel Jackson

I liked what one of the announcers said about him during the game: he might lead the nation in "combat catches." That was his term for catching the ball while wearing a defender on your back, shoulder, etc. He probably hasn't received enough acclaim for that. He's not the fastest receiver, or...

Is Rutgers a Possible Trap Game?

They certainly should since four of our six conference games have been one score games including 3 of our 4 conference wins. It's possible that we could have a game closer to the Maryland spread but I doubt it at this point.

All Things Class of 2025 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

Well, putting aside the cost of a player for a moment, the idea of recruiting high school players (other than the most college game ready) is that they may be able to contribute something while developing over time. Two years ago, Ben Johnson recruited 5 high school players. One of them...

    Week 10 Other Games Thread

As you'll recall, they had similar problems against us with turnovers and penalties. I was glad to get out of there with a win and head to the break.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Fleck said that in the presser and he didn't seem too upset.

Who is your Gophers MVP in the big win at Illinois?

So true. You know that things are going well when you have a plethora of MVP candidates.

I read a bit of the presser and Fleck said it was Crawford's call.

    Week 10 Other Games Thread

I'm happy for UCLA. They've had a brutal schedule and had to play an 8:00 AM game (their time) at Rutgers that they won anyway. I could tell during our game with them that they were better than people realized, especially on defense. I have nothing against Nebraska. I feel for their...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I kind of hated it but the team obviously played with a great sense of urgency after it so all's well that ends well!

Who is your Gophers MVP in the big win at Illinois?

D of course but Taylor's 189 total yards from scrimmage deserves special mention.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I hate to say it but I think PJ's boneheaded fake punt actually threw the challenge to the offense and defense and they both rose to the occasion! With the exception of that long IL touchdown run with 3 or 4 missed tackles, another outstanding game by the defense. Offense struggled through...

List of '24-'25 D1 Players from Minnesota

Great job! I'll try to refer to this list throughout the season to check on how some of these players are doing.

Scoggins: Now that P.J. Fleck has a QB he can trust, it’s a whole new ballgame for Gophers

That's exactly right. If he would have waited until the running game got going we'd have a losing record now. The decision probably was helped by our first two conference games where we fell behind by a lot and had to pass. Then, the running game worked pretty well against USC and we had...

    2024 Bowl Projections Tracker

You're right! It would be like that victory one of Mason's teams had against Alabama in the Music City Bowl.

Minnesota Vs. Illinois - 2024 Media Predictions

In other words, about par for the course in these times of Web-based hackery. Lots of praise about Illinois' passing offense (for the record, I think they are a pretty good passing team) but silence about our passing defense which actually is one of the best in the country by statistical...
