    Badgers fire their OC

Barriero et al had been weighing in, loudly, long before that game. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Yes. The Cousins situation was handled beautifully, in my opinion. They would have been foolish to pay anywhere close to what Atlanta is paying him. Now they need to make sure they have a QB to go with the best, highest-paid receiver in football, and an offensive line that can protect that QB...

    Badgers fire their OC

Yup. My memory of that situation: Mason was doomed because the media, led by Barreiro and Reusse, were screaming for blood, and the fans followed suit. Mason was portrayed as a coach who failed in big situations and blew big leads. This was unforgivable, apparently, and the outcry became...

I have no idea, but I do know it's not just about this season. In what ways would the roster look different? I'm assuming the Vikings would not have simply released Jefferson, with nothing in return. Future picks? Players? And the money that is now allocated for Jefferson could have and would...

Yes, and I'm not arguing that the Vikings should have given Cousins a deal to compete with the one Atlanta gave him... not at all. In fact, I think it was time to move on from Cousins. I'm questioning the wisdom of paying a monster contract to a wide receiver. This is not an "either the QB or...

The thing about "moving on" from a coach who has seen some success is it always involves a two step process. STEP 1: Fire the coach. That's the easy part. Perhaps too easy, because then comes the much more difficult... STEP 2: Find a new coach who is clearly better than the guy you just fired...

I agree. But then as I said, I'm biased. Looking at the B1G standings, the thing that sticks in my craw is the simple, undeniable fact that we can't quite seem to catch Iowa. It bugs me even worse than the close losses we've had this season. The Hawkeyes always end up just that little bit...

Vikings are currently 15th in yards per game. 13th in passing yards per game. 19th in rushing yards per game. 10th in points per game. Meanwhile, Vikings defense is tied for first in takeaways. It looks (on the surface, at least) like the Brian Flores defense is what's working best.

Well, Minnesota beat Illinois. Yes, we also lost to Michigan... kind of, but... I'm not exactly unbiased, but I'd take Minnesota over both Illinois and Michigan if we were playing either of those teams this Saturday.

As I said, neither the Chiefs nor the Patriots ever had a WR as their highest-paid player. The Vikings are trying a new approach, and many Viking fans love it. Make a WR the centerpiece of your team. Let's see how it works out, compared to the Patriots/Chiefs model.

I don't recall either the Patriots or Chiefs giving league-best contracts to a wide receiver, though. Not even when their QBs were on rookie deals. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

Your post was excellent... well-reasoned. I'm not disagreeing with the gist of it. Jefferson is very impactful. It could be that the times have changed and we are now on the cutting edge of a new trend to make a wide receiver the keystone of every team's offense. I have my doubts. The 'old'...

Chryst was 9-4 (.692) in his last full season at Wisconsin. Obviously, I can't speak for Wisconsin fans in general, but if 9-4 is what they deem as unacceptable then Fickell's record should have them readying the torches and pitchforks..

No question he's our best player. The point is: he's a wide receiver, not a QB or a left tackle or a dominant edge rusher. I have doubts that it's smart management to build your team around a WR, no matter how good he is. I hope I'm wrong.

"Struggling" is an understatement. In fact, he's not in the same zip code as Chryst. Chryst at Wisconsin: 67-26 (.720) Fickell at Wisconsin: 13-11 (.541)
