    Gopher Fans in Attendance

At road games I look for the camera to pan the Gopher contingent and note their level of enthusiasm. Last night I didn't notice any attempt to sweep through the faithful, just a a still shot of some older fans who were noticeably lacking in animation. A poster on another thread, I believe...

    Future Non-Conference Opponents

Yes, loved the Cal trip in 2006! Did not enjoy the wooden, splintery benches we were compelled to occupy but it was great fun to be in a lively group of Gopher nuts. Had no answers for Marshawn Lynch or Desean Jackson that day.

The Athletic: The 2006 Insight Bowl Collapse

When the Mrs. and I came out of the tunnel and saw the Gophers warming up, I said "we'll win because the Gophers have never lost a bowl game in maroon jerseys." What I rercall most about the first half is Jack Simmons making a bunch of catches, in relief of the injured Matt Spaeth. We could have...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT MICHIGAN IN-GAME THREAD TWAS NIGHT BEFORE XMAS THEME!!!***

Johnson's toughness reminded me of Jason Stamper, with a better jump shot.

An Awesome Play, from 80 Years Ago

Pearl Harbor happened just a few days before Smith gave his Heisman acceptance address in New York. He had already written it beforehand but his edited version had a grace and elegance that belied his youth. I will try to find it somewhere.

Undefeated but how good? Where are the Gophers in the first Big Ten power rankings? (#10. Minnesota)

Or maybe the Iron 5 after the 1972 Ohio State melee and subsequent suspensions.

Undefeated but how good? Where are the Gophers in the first Big Ten power rankings? (#10. Minnesota)

By depth I mean guys who can make the ball go into the basket. Don't see much past the two guys mentioned, whose wotk load will be extreme. Our lack of size inside will be seriously exploited, especially durng the Big 10 season. Foul trouble among Minnesota's frontcourt will be inevitable. These...

Undefeated but how good? Where are the Gophers in the first Big Ten power rankings? (#10. Minnesota)

So little depth. If either Jamison or Willis go down, who will score? And they will have to play a ton of minutes. How well Johnson is able to keep this team up as the losses mount in the Big !0 season will be a way to measure his mettle. About all we can expect is that they continue to play...

    A hypothetical

If the Gophers had made it to Indianapolis to play Michigan, would it qualify as an opportunity to win back The Jug, or would it have to be a regular season game? I have attended several Michigan games at home and find the arrogance of their fans a little more nuanced than that which the...

Minnesota Vs. Wisconsin 2021 - Media Predictions

We need Mertz to channel Hornibrook 2018. It won't happen without pressure. Can the Gophers trust their defensive backs to do some man-to-man coverage? Can Rossi dial up some deceptive blitz packages? I am sure that Leonhard will be able to do so. Not feeling good about this one. Would SO love...

Post Game Thread: Gophers Destroy Indiana

Yes, the Gophers were down 28-6 but actually fought back to take the lead but then had no answer for Randle-El and lost. That was the game when they lost Middlebrooks.

Most disappointing season in my time being a fan

Yes! the game with USC & OJ Simpson comes to mind. Murray went creative and pulled that cross-field lateral that made a go-ahead, 4th quarter touchdown kickoff return possible. I think the the throw went from George Kemp to John Wintermute. But the Trojans had too much firepower. The Purdue game...

Most disappointing season in my time being a fan

The 1982 team got off to a great start and were ranked, until they lost to Illinois at home in a game they dominated statistically. Then came their trip to Evanston to play a Northwestern team that had lost 34 straight games. The Gophers got up 21-3 and lost 31-21! After that an incredible...

Most disappointing season in my time being a fan

I was at Mason's last game. When it was 38-7 early in the 4th quarter, a coed next to me said "these guys (Texas Tech) are awful! Based on past heartbreak, I cautioned her not to be too confident. How I hated being right that night!!

Most disappointing season in my time being a fan

Yep. That one hurt, even though the Vikings were roundly outplayed. Their only touchdown until the 4th quarter came when they recovered a muffed punt at the Dallas 5-yard line.

Most disappointing season in my time being a fan

I attended a Michigan game early in this millenium. Michigan got up 17-0 and some of their fans a section down from me took out newspapers. The Gophers came back to tie it at 17-17 but they just kept on reading. They knew Minnesota couldn't close the deal and they were right. It was extra sweet...

Those repetitive screen passes to Chris Perry were maddening. The d-linemen culdn't stop taking the bait!

Most disappointing season in my time being a fan

Thank you, Great Plains Gopher. I have read about that 1949 season. I believe Bierman said it was his best team, and he admitted that he may have worked them too hard. They seemed invincible after crushing OSU in Columbus but then found ways to lose to Purdue and Michigan. Glad I wasn't around...

Most disappointing season in my time being a fan

I was only 7 years old in 1957 but got my introduction to Gopher heartbreak in 1956 when practically every adult I knew was crestfallen by a 7-0 loss to Iowa that cost Minnesota a Rose Bowl trip. In 1957, they opened the season 3-0, reached #3 in the rankings and had Bobby Cox on the cover of...
