Yes, it was Stoll's first year. He ran something called a "Veer" offense that did not exactly emphasize passing. When he brought in Dungy, he made some changes

Of course, it was 1993. Thank you for correcting me. In1994 the Gophers went to Madison and won 17-14 in another upset. That was the game in which Tutu Atwell caught a late, game-winning touchdown pass.
Sarurday's game inspired me to do a little digging into past wins over the Badgers. Maybe you can supply the names of some of the Gophers cited below who contributed in big ways is some of these victories.

Don't know any personally, of course, but I have a feeling that what they have given to and taken from "the program" will serve them well, wherever they go from here.
My wife of 33 years finally got around to asking me if I loved the Gophers more than her. I hesitated and finally said, "well, I've loved the Gophers longer." Let's just say it was not the response she was hoping to hear.
I drove up from San Diego for the UNLV game. Very impressed with the Gopher turnout, which dwarfed the UNLV "crowd" by 10-1. A group called the Traveling Gophers made up the largest part of the Minnesota contingent. As for the game, I thought Cooper did an excellent job of getting into the lane...
Against a great team, sometimes you have to be more venturesome. Against those Purdue teams and Bowling Green he needlessly risked giving an edge to a comparable /inferior opponent.
He is better at building a program and installing a culture than he is at game day coaching. The 4th and one fiascos at the Gopher 35 yard-line (Purdue 2020 & 2022, Bowling Green 2021) and losing Autman Bell and Mo with 4-5 touchdown leads are examples. Outside of the Nebraska game, can't think...
I will be there for the UNLV game. Attendance for the Cal Baptist game was listed at 900 in a building that seats 2,500. All seats general admission. Shouldn't be hard to get a good one unless the UNLV folks show up in numbers
Yikes! I bought a ticket for the first game on Wednesday without knowledge of how good Cal Baptist is. I just assumed the Gophers would make the "title game". When will I learn NOT to expect success after all these years? Go Gophers!
Not at all sure the venue would have mattered much. Yes, at Memorial Stadium, the Gophers had many very good and often great teams from the late 1920s through the late 1960s but the building didn't make them successful. They had terrific players who were often led by great head coaches. Then...
