Yup- I can still see Decker limping around and Weber forcing a pass to him with just a few seconds to go and the ball at the Gopher 30. I guess Brewster didn't like his chances in OT. Just an awful blow after impressive wins at Illinois and at Purdue.
I
I think the 2008 team was at 6-0 before a disheartening OT home loss to Northwestern. Also, that was a bad Michigan team that later came to the Dome and hammered the Gophers. A big blown chance to get The Jug.
It felt like they had to be on the field for about 25 minutes in the second half. They looked absolutely gassed in the 4th quarter, due in part to the Stone Age play-calling. Much credit goes to them for blunting thrusts, forcing field goal tries and making Syracuse chew up clock for their last...
Wow! Could that REALLY have been 35 years ago. Standout memories from the Saints game- Vikes fall behind 10-0 but roar back with Carter's td punt return and Hassan Jones has a demoralizing Hail Mary td catch on the last play of the half. 49ers- Chuck Nelson has 5 field goals. Reggie Rutland has...
I have seen references to Mason, the Gophers and "the Pirate" on this thread. As I watched the Indy meltdown on Saturday it reminded me so much of Mason's last game. Up 35-7 at halftime up, up 38-7 and then....
Ironic that the 2022 Purdue game was his undoing. At Purdue in 2021 he was the offensive hero with 2 catches on deep strikes in a game in which the offense didn't do much else.
Yes, they have beaten the Dolphins, Jets, Patriots and Commanders, all of whom are playoff contenders but none of these teams have been especially impressive. If the goal is parity, the NFL is succeeding.
Putting the weather aside and looking at the big picture for the players, a trip to New York is probably a first for many. And to be able to experience it with your "brothers" on someone else's dime is pretty special. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many, I expect.
So just who are these guys? Can they hang with other playoff teams or are they just a resourceful bunch that can find ways to beat mediocrities. I hate to say it, but I think mainly the latter.
As an aside, Warmath's son, Murray, Jr., graduated from the Minnesota Med School in 1966. He has been a radiologist for 56 years, and still practices at a prestigious hospital in La Jolla.
Absolutely correct. Plus, he gave opportunities to a number of black players from the segregated south and did not get to play pre-conference cupcakes.
