    College Football is Dead

I have to ask, what do you think the purpose of the college football playoffs are: A.) To find the best team at the end of the season (regular season is no longer meaningful, it is just how good you are at the end of the season)? B.) To find the best team over the course of the season (limited...

    College Football is Dead

I have a solution to the NIL, transfer portal, etc to save college football: Get rid of the 5 years of playing eligibility limitation. The only requirement should be 'full time enrollment as a student' and maybe restrict scholarships to 5 years - they are less meaningful in the world of NIL...

    Question for the "Anti-Flecksters"

This is a football team - you are focusing on the goals. Our team needs to be about high GPA and graduation rates, not spirituality. Some on here foolishly think the goal is to win - the clearly don't understand football.

    Question for the "Anti-Flecksters"

Fleck is not getting fired. By the time he walks away from the program years from now, of his own volition, he will be making $10M per year and have convinced the U to buy at least 2 monorails. He could win 3 games next year and half of this board would still fight to the death for him. I...

RandBall: The 5-7 Gophers are going to a bowl game. What should we call it?

The players better call it the 'must win' Bowl. If we finish 5-8, it is worse than not going at all. If they go and get blown out, make that doubly bad.

    NIL and RS Strategy

tOSU blows out a vast majority of its opponents - so, getting real in-game playing time does not come from replacing CJ Shroud for the meaningful minutes. What it does do is give your backup actual experience so in the event that your starter goes down, you don't have a bunch of guys that have...

    NIL and RS Strategy

So now you want to switch the argument to: you only burn the red shirt year if they are better than the current starting player? If you are not saying this, then I do not get the point you are trying to make.

    NIL and RS Strategy

I don't think I agree with that take on how it was done in the past. Look at Ohio State last year - Quinn Ewers took a red shirt year. You are telling me that he could not make the 3 deep at Ohio State but then was good enough to start and star at Texas the next season? For a lot of...

    NIL and RS Strategy

As a follow up - how many RS did we use this year? Given our lack of depth and NIL/portal changing the game, did we burn them all or did we still use some?

    NIL and RS Strategy

With all the NIL talk, I was thinking – should this change how coaches use their red shirts for programs like Minnesota? I think the general idea for the RS is that the player has more upside in Year 5 than in Year 1, so you sit the player so that they can mature and give their greatest...

An amazing collection of things I didn’t see coming

I think this is too early to call. I still think AK can be a mid to higher level B1G QB - the problem is that he is not being put into a position where it is possible for him to succeed and he has received zero help from the WRs and TEs, especially BSF, who should have been the veteran relief...

Describe the Gophers loss to Purdue in 1 sentence

If the coaches, players, and school don't care about winning, why should I?

I don't know where my fandom goes from here...

So being ranked #18 and then dropping 2 more games (meaning they lost 3 games straight and 4 of their last 5) would not have dropped them out of the polls? I guess we can all have our own opinions.

I don't know where my fandom goes from here...

You are correct, I was using the final CFP ranking prior to the bowls. In 2014, they dropped out due to the bowl loss for the season final AP poll.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. Record matters, but when the losses and wins occur matters more. If we were #18 and then lose 2 games in a row, you will drop out of the top 25 unless it is a very close loss to a top ranked team.

I don't know where my fandom goes from here...

Different assumptions. I assume that IA or WI lost more than they did so we sneak into the game with the same 10-2 record. We entered the Auburn game at #18. So, assuming all else would have been the same, we would have entered the B1G championship game at #18. Assuming we lose to tOSU, we...

I don't know where my fandom goes from here...

Frankly, I think it has the potential to make it worse - not better. Could you imagine if in 2019, we win the West and then face tOSU in the title game? I would image we would have been smashed and then went into a game - not vs. Auburn (who had nothing to play for) and would maybe have not won...

I don't know where my fandom goes from here...

For the Gophers, I have long given up hope of winning a B1G title. I don’t even have the expectation of winning a West or “Leaders and Legends” title (especially with the expanded B1G). For me, the measuring bar is being ranked in the top 25 – preferably at the end of the season. Since my time...

I hate to post this, but Iowa/Wisconsin is more than likely

The B1G 'Championship Game' will only be AT BEST the 4th most important game of the season for the B1G after Michigan/tOSU, Michigan/PSU, and tOSU/PSU. Heck, I would even argue tOSU vs. Notre Dame was more important.

Durr: Man I love my school so much and everything the program has done for me. We have to find that edge and grit again. That start in the locker room

I like that the players are trying to address this - but again - sounds like they know some of them have quit on the team and coaching staff. We are only halfway into the season so it is bad to have this happen now but hopefully it will serve as a wake up call to everyone (coaching included)...
