    In the spirit of overanalysis

Agree, as someone else said a long time ago, "most football games are not won, they are lost." As for Danny Collins all that I can say is, "Right."

    Mikkelsen Commits

You are correct on both points. Yes, I recall the second oneo_O. We did have a player from Watertown around that time though IIRC.

    Mikkelsen Commits

There were probably some before these guys, but the first I recall from North Dakota were Mark Slater, Minot; Doug Beaudoin, Jamestown and Kirby Kuklinski, Whapeton, and later Eslinger from Bismarck. IIRC we have also had Joe Salem from Sioux Falls and Michael Hunt from Watertown, SD. So yes...

Yes, our pass rush has improved. But, I'm always up for giving someone a shot at becoming a sack master.

    Mikkelsen Commits

I'm excited about both. What I would really, really love is if one (or both) of them would be willing to switch sides of the ball and become an edge pass rusher. With their speed and a little added muscle they might have great potential to put some heat on opposing QB's. IMHO a stud pass rusher...

    announcers - favorites

When I lived in South Carolina I could get Georgia games on the radio. Larry Munson was pretty good but a big time homer. He's from Mpls so some oldtimers might remember him. South Carolina's former announcer, Bob Fulton was solid, but current play-by-play announcer and former SC QB Todd Ellis...

I think it's stupid too. Is that a version of the old "Oklahoma" drill?

Press Conference: Gopher Players Preview Spring Football (video)

I don't live in Minn so I don't see Twin Cities media in action all that much. I did see a recent clip of an interview that Doogie did with Lou Nanne. It least once I said to myself - "that was an awkward question, what's with that." On another note I was "tricked" into going to pilates by my...

Gopher Legend and CFB HOFer Tom Brown Passes Away

Before my time too. I think that I read someplace that he also swam at Mpls Central. I also think I recall Butch Nash saying that, "few Gophers scared opponents more than Tom Brown."

    Future Gopher Coach Discussion

Of course he was successful. I'll admit that I'm not an authority on hockey, at all. But I keep thinking about the NCAA championship game from a few years ago when they went into that defensive shell and lost the game. I kept saying, "What the F is this strategy about?!" I know, it's completely...

    Buffs - Coach Prime

I mostly agree. However if the game ended with the opponent's defense having been on the field for a long time, and they are totally gassed, I say make them get back out there and continue to gash them.

    Jett Feeney, Moorhead qb, commits

1976 Rochester Mayo: Dave Gardner, Tom Fitzpatrick and Mark Owens. Gardner is the only one that got significant playing time. Sadly, Owens is the only one still alive, as Gardner and Fitz passed within about the last 6 years.

The Mountain West is in serious dialogue to add FCS powerhouse North Dakota State as a football-only member starting this coming season

UNLV Athletic Dept has sent out a message specifically about this home game this fall. No date was provided. I'm betting that a bunch of ND folks trek to Vegas for this one.

Inside the re-making of Fernando Mendoza from shaky starter to 2026 NFL first-rounder

I just want to see Gopher QBs improve and develop. I am sure that they do improve, but not like Cignetti has done. IMHO we have never had a QB whisperer.

Was great! And then last night I watched the Netflix documentary of the 1980 gold medal. Graduated from high school with Eric Strobel (played football and baseball with him), was great to see him and others tell of their experiences. I really enjoyed the comments of Eruzione and Morrow. Didn't...

All Things 2026-27 College Football Head Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

I liked Hauck when he was at UNLV, not enough W's though. He was UNLV's head coach when they played the Gophers in Mpls about 10 years ago.

BYU WR Kingston charged with 1st degree felony rape

My sister in law (SiL) was a classmate of his at BYU. She wonders that same thing. I know in one instance he was swearing loudly and frequently in the campus bowling alley. As funny as it sounds, a "normal" student would have been expelled for that. The same SiL got in trouble because one of her...

    Mount Rushmore of gopher coaches

Mason did a lot for the program. Really did a good job in so many ways. If it weren't for some/several incredibly agonizing losses accomplished by blowing sizable leads, Mason would definitely be "Rushmore worthy."
