All Things 2026 NFL Draft/NFL UDFA Signings

Which we do most years under Fleck as evidenced by the growing number of former Gophers in the NFL. That said, number of players drafted doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the team or program. Washington had 7 players drafted and finished with the same conference record as us. PSU had...

Big Ten Dominates 1st Round of NFL Draft

If you ask my father in law (massive Buckeye fan) it was the coaches fault but in the end they lost by 3 points to the eventual National Champion and by 10 to the runner up. So yeah, by their very lofty standards the season was a failure but they they got a lot out of all that talent that got...

    Spring Game

There are legit reasons to be concerned about the running game last year but I wouldn't put much stock in spring game numbers good or bad. Taylor didn't play The presumed starting o-line was split between the two rosters Mixing and matching lots of combinations Going against a defense that...

    Spring Game

Assume the play you are referring to is at the 2:00 mark of the video that was posted. He did show a little more burst, never going to be confused for a running QB but I am sure he has spent a lot of time working on his mobility in the off season.

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

Very well said. Goal for next year should be making the NCAA tournament and this current roster is better setup to do that then last year's roster was. Highly unlikely that we are in the mix for the conference title but I don't see that as a failure in year 2.

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

We won 8 last year with our decimated roster so expecting a step up from that is very reasonable with a full compliment of players. We had 10 Big Ten games (9 regular season and 1 BTT) decided within 5 points. Of those 10 we went 4-6 and 2 of the 4 wins came after our roster was completely...

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

I'm sure it was made clear to the media either through Niko or the media relations director that he wasn't going to talk about injured players. Definitely frustrating as fans but it is just the way a lot of coaches chose to handle it these days in regards to injuries. Probably safer to say...

Winters Grady Commits to the Gophers!

Yeah, they rolled the dice on Stephens and Omot being healthy and it didn't work out. Willis, Vaihola and the late season injury to JCJ were just bad luck. Losing 3 starters and most of the playable depth should have completely tanked the season but credit to Niko and the remaining players as...

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

Turner probably deserves the bust label as he looked out of shape and struggled prior to getting hurt but agree on the other 4. Viahola and Willis were both starting before getting hurt so tough to say what kind of seasons they would have had as they adjusted fully to this level and the other...

Winters Grady Commits to the Gophers!

I get why some are skittish here with anything injury related coming off of last year and also what happened with Omot. But gotta believe Niko is going to do everything possible to avoid a situation like last year happening again so they are going to do their due diligence on a guy with a known...

How dare you try to have an optimistic outlook about something.... :)

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

Absolutely, there is always risk that guys aren't going to pan out. The good news is that heading into the current season we at least have a foundation of guys to fill in around whereas last year we were basically starting from scratch in terms of players who had proven they could play at the...

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

How is our current roster a downgrade in athletes from what we had last year? Tyson, Reynolds, Willis, Vaihola were all guys that got little to no interest from high major programs out of high school. None of them were even had a 247 ranking when they committed to their first school. Our new...

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

When they committed last year were you thrilled by the pickups of Tyson and Reynolds? Tyson was a mid-major player who was a complete non-factor at UNC and Reynolds wasn't even supposed to be a starter for us prior to all the injuries. Niko clearly saw something in them and they both ended up...

Oregon Dan Lanning: Koi is "football serious."

Yeah, after his freshman year the expectation was he was going to play like a superstar and while he was not a bad player last year (with the exception of the Cal game) he also never got close to living up to the superstar hype. Will be interesting to see how he does there. He clearly has...

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

Johnson brought in a handful of decent portal guys beyond just Garcia, but he was never able to keep any sort of roster continuity and obviously the team failed to find any sort of success on the court as well. Thriving might not be the right word, especially as far as the men are concerned...

    Kai Shinholster back

I would put it more like fans tend to get caught up using statistics as their means of evaluating players whereas coaches are going to evaluate their entire game while also projecting out what they see them developing into.

    Kai Shinholster back

Well said. Fans have a tendency to look at players as finished products and not account for the massive amount of growth and development that occurs over the course of a players career. Many also underestimate the massive jump it is from high school to college. Asuma made big strides from his...

    Kai Shinholster back

Curious why you think Tomes will get more run then Shinholster. Kai is significantly taller and a shooting guard with a year under his belt in the program vs. Tomes who is quite a bit smaller and a PG. Would seem to me that Groves is far more likely to be in direct competition with Shinholster...

All Things 2026 NFL Draft/NFL UDFA Signings

Our potential for an early pick went away when Smith decided to come back. But when the dust settles it won't be shocking if a handful of guys find their way onto NFL rosters either through the draft or the UDFA process.
