Inside the Hall: 2026-27 Big Ten offseason at a glance: Minnesota Golden Gophers

My take on this year's team is that they will start from a much stronger position than last year's team. I loved seeing the team improve as guys learned their clear roles in the system, but it did take a while. I think with the returning players, it should speed up that process and the team...

    Roster is filled

not a bad idea, auction off the last 2 roster spots to the highest bidder. How much would someone pay to get courtside seats and all access passes to practices, locker rooms, traveling with the team, amenities?! Just a joke, don't come after me!

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS BAYLOR COLLEGE BASKETBALL CROWN ELITE 8 IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Gophers came out flat and Baylor played with more intensity. Not the best way to end the season, but it was a fun bonus game nonetheless. Now, let's get cookin in the portal!!

    Asuma

That floater is a difficult shot! I love that he has worked that into his game. It’s so difficult to defend. It will be even more effective next season if he has a decent post player that can be at the rim. The defense will have to choose and that floater will always be open if they don’t...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT INDIANA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

yes, last night made it very evident just how undersized the team is this year. It's hard to play good solid defense with intensity when you start the game already thinking about not getting early fouls. It's like starting every game in foul trouble before the tip!

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT INDIANA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I'd go one further, Niko's system is built to take talented players that might not be 5 star athletes and make them efficient. Cade is a perfect fit, but so are a large number of players every year. This system works well for Minnesota, we largely can't compete with the blue bloods for the top...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT INDIANA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I do the same thing. Once the kids are down, I can watch it uninterrupted. I found I actually prefer it this way, as I can skip all the ads!

Niko should be in Big Ten coach of the year mix

One thing that hasn't been talked about enough, is the conditioning of the players. In years past when the gophers had injuries and or decided to only play 7 guys the players didn't seem to be in great condition. The current gophers squad does not get beat back, they don't give up easy buckets...

    Grayson Grove progression

Our high school coach always had a rim to pass around and show us that 3 basketballs would fit in the rim. Always told us there’s no excuse for missing free throws and layups!

    Grayson Grove progression

for sure, the physics of it are remarkable when it goes in! I did notice he took a dibble or two on his free throws last game. It didn't work, but at least he's trying new things!

    Grayson Grove progression

The free throws are pretty funny. He gets the ball and just fires it up there. I'm waiting for a dribble, or a spin in the hands, nope, as soon as they bounce it to him, he throws it up.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I’m watching a little delayed. It certainly looked like a hook and hold to me. Almost exactly like the one they call on JCJ

***OFFICIAL wisconsin AT MINNESOTA RIVALRY GAME IN-GAME THREAD, BETTER DEAD THAN RED!!!***

I think some of the reason people weren't up in arms about him leaving was because he deserted the team one of his seasons here. If my memory is correct, he left mid-season for mental health reasons. A lot of people felt like he just quit on the team. So, now to see him come in and play well...

***OFFICIAL USC (MUSSELMAN BACK IN THE BARN) AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I think the most egregious thing that Muss did at the game was keep picking his teeth and then eating whatever he picked out! Anyone else catch that!

***OFFICIAL NATIONALLY RANKED IOWA AT MINNESOTA RIVALRY GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Wasn't that an amazing block!! The body control to stay vertical along with the athletic ability to get up that high with both hands was fantastic. I even liked that he didn't go crazy complaining after he got called for a foul, that showed incredible restraint!!

Gophers' Selection Sunday "Magic Number" Is 21

you might be right, but how nice is it to see the team getting better as the season goes on, as opposed to the crumbling come January and February.

    All Hail Niko!!

The last 4 years were so bad and even a lot of the Pitino era was the same. The weave at the top with little other movement, it was so easy to guard. It went on for so long, I started doubting if a new coach could even come in and make a big difference in style of play and scheme. It is so...

***OFFICIAL NATIONALLY RANKED IOWA AT MINNESOTA RIVALRY GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

That zone break sequence was unbelievable, they moved the ball around so fast. It almost felt like they were running it as a practice with no defense, pretty impressive. Even more impressive is how well the gophers have been playing under Niko!! Iowa did a much better job in the second half of...

Pharrell Payne did something and got hurt badly maybe?

Bad take. If you watch it close, it's not because of the hanging on the rim, he comes down and one of his feet land on the defenders foot and makes his legs split apart and land awkwardly in the splits position. I also think a power dunk like that isn't only for style points and can play a...
