    Evaluating Baylor - CBC

James Nnaji is who you're referring to, and he is on the team but hasn't been playing much (one minute in their last game, 6 minutes in the previous game, and did not play in either of the two games before that. He has had a back injury since coming to Baylor. This extended break may let him...

    Evaluating Baylor - CBC

What sticks out to me: Baylor takes a LOT of midrange shots but also forces their opponents to take even more Baylor is a bit better at offense and quite a bit worse at defense than MN Baylor is elite at offensive rebounding - this might be a big key to the game if the Gophs can hold their...

Gophers’ season over? Men’s basketball wait and see on postseason options

I have no idea what the criteria are, but MN's only metric in their favor is the conference standings. The efficiency metrics like Torvik/kempom/NET have them as the 4th best or worse of the non-NCAA teams, and the results-based metric of Wins Above Bubble is also not in the Gophs' favor - those...

    Asuma

The reason Asuma was listed as a "combo G" on Torvik is that the primary PG was Reynolds (who also turned it over way too much, but was much, much better with assists). I think the Gophers should want a better PG than Asuma, period - not that he's all that well-suited to be the 2-guard either...

    Asuma

These are the "combo guards" in the B10, for only conference games - the vast majority of these are in the green for turnover percentage. Asuma really is not good compared to his peers on that stat. As an aside, Thornton is a friggin' stud.

Bracketology: St Thomas #14 Seed as of Jan 2026 -- NCAA Tournament

@Roland Brooks "Comical. Sparty plays Michigan schools.. I think even at Oakland one year.. I don’t want you care…" You may have misunderstood - I'm on your side. P4 schools should play their low major statemates, and by and large, they do. The P4 fanbases are also completely indifferent to any...

Bracketology: St Thomas #14 Seed as of Jan 2026 -- NCAA Tournament

I guarantee you that Michigan fans couldn't care less about EMU, nor Wisconsin about Milw or GB, nor IU or PU about IUI or IPFW, nor Neb bout UNO, nor OSU about Wright St, nor, nor, nor... Those lesser teams in those states are the exact same level as UST. The scaredy-catness about UST by this...

Bracketology: St Thomas #14 Seed as of Jan 2026 -- NCAA Tournament

Yeah, no. Iowa, right? Yeah, anything outside the 494/694 loop is too far to go for anything by car.

There are only 22 high-major scholarship players who will celebrate Senior Night this week, having played at just one place.

I was trying to go through the list of who the 10 players in the B10 were. I know the big 3 at PU. MSU has two- Kohler and Cooper. Thornton and Martinelli. I think Bittle. Not sure Hoiberg counts because he may have started as a walk on. Not bad off the top of my head... Oh, and Tschetter…

All Things Terrible Tuesday Big Ten Tournament Updates

Here's a tool to play around with the possibilities: https://bball.notnothing.net/big10.php?sport=mbb Only path to the 11 seed is to beat NW, and have both USC and Wash lose their games. While that's the only path, it may also be one of the likelier outcomes - the Wash @ Ore game is the...

***OFFICIAL USC (MUSSELMAN BACK IN THE BARN) AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Not even close. He's the 41st ranked player in the league on Torvik. For reference, Tyson is #11, Reynolds is #23, and Durkin is #34.

Who is the Gopher MVP this year?

Washington is actually ranked ahead of the Gophers, it was in Seattle, and it was the first game JCJ missed. You could replace that with the neutral loss to Stanford, though.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT OREGON IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

That's never good, but particularly bad when the only real player to worry about on the opposition is a high-usage 7-footer. Zone better be working tonight

Shooter: Don’t be surprised if former Orono star Nolan Groves ends up with the Gophers for his sophomore season.

I'm afraid that is how it works now. No P4 is going to pay "projected contributor" money for a non-freshman with unproven production.

Shooter: Don’t be surprised if former Orono star Nolan Groves ends up with the Gophers for his sophomore season.

We must be looking at different numbers. The ones I’m seeing - on Torvik- show a player whose offensive rating has decreased over last year and is worse in conference play this year. He’s the 5th best rated player on the team. And compared to his peers across the league, he’s woeful. If he was...

Let him prove himself at a lower level. Tyson at least showed something at Belmont. I was skeptical of his lack of floor time at UNC, but it worked out.

It depends on who else is in the portal and gettable. If a guy couldn’t see the floor in the B12, he’s unlikely to be above marginal B10 level. There should be better options. But he’s one of us….

Shooter: Don’t be surprised if former Orono star Nolan Groves ends up with the Gophers for his sophomore season.

Everyone is subject to being upgraded. JCJ and Durkin are at least average B10-quality players, but they need more Tyson/Garcia-level guys to really compete. If said players happen to play either of those guys' roles. well, too bad.

Shooter: Don’t be surprised if former Orono star Nolan Groves ends up with the Gophers for his sophomore season.

While we're at it... I know he's a one-of-us, but Asuma is not performing at anything but a lower end B10 PG, and that's being kind (the Torvik site has a ranking function by role, and he's the 15th best "scoring PG" in the B10). An upgrade would not only be welcome, it'd be advised.

This obsession with the ones-of-us is never-ending. Maybe go after players with demonstrated actual production? Spending NIL on projects/flyers seems… unwise. Maybe you get the hometown discount, but I’d still rather spend on proven production.
