Big Ten Basketball 2026-27 Standings Outlook

I have 8th or 9th place in mind. Keep moving up. Make the tournament. Grow the fan base back. Increase the NIL. Keep moving up.

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

I think it is huge that as the guys practice they will be facing players of equal ability all summer and fall. Add to that we have Niko system veterans in place to lead the way on the system and the culture. We needed to add size, shooting, depth and athleticism to improve on last year. The...

How does this program get meaningfully more NIL money for Medved?

If they are reasonable in scope and duration and accompanied by consideration- they can be enforced.

How does this program get meaningfully more NIL money for Medved?

I would not say never. If Niko can build success- I recall this town being on fire for the 96-97 team and others in the more distant past. If we start making the tournament and advancing- the NIL will grow. I agree with your post, though!

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

That may be the case. BUT, if Durkin is the 6th man, it means we have a better team than we know today. Speaking from the known- Durkin starts. The hope is that someone is better and Durkin is a great 6th man who gives instant offense- meaning we are probably darn good.

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

Both Asuma and Evans will play the point. An injury to either puts Tomes into action.

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

That's an interesting lineup and I do think we will see that, but it is too small for the Big Ten to be a staple- it would leave us the same as last year. I see Tomes as a more likely redshirt than Anderson or Mpoyi and Grove, as admirable as his play was last year, will have to improve a lot to...

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

It is pretty apparent that depth is really good everywhere but PF- if we need to play big. The guy who we will need to sweat out staying healthy the most is JCJ. At least if JCJ goes down, we have the option of still having size at the C position and using a shooter at the 4. This will be a very...

    Gopher-centric Portal Short List

Lorenson is also on the roster and he is actually a great shooter. The 15th probably goes to a walk on 6-9 kid- practice player. Competition on this roster is going to be fierce. I like it!

    Malachi Palmer commits

He'd have to win a lawsuit against the NCAA or they have to give him the 5th year. However, at this point, if I am him- I am going to the highest bidder. This may be his best shot to secure his long term future and he could bring in a couple million- which we cannot match.

    Malachi Palmer commits

That's the guy that has to improve- no doubt about it. I didn't wince when he shot one, he's not a bad shooter....but he needs to get better and can do so.

    Malachi Palmer commits

We have a lot of good to very good three point shooters: Palmer Grady Durkin Anderson Evans Asuma JCJ Groves Tomes

    Malachi Palmer commits

From Ryan James free article: Villanova Coach Kevin Dillard described Palmer in the following way this season: "Malachi is a tough, physical guard that plays on both sides of the ball. He is an elite on ball defender and a natural scorer at the offensive end. His athleticism and size make him a...

All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

Well we pretty much know that Kent State wasn't competing on the basis of NIL $. So yeah, I would guess Niko either offered him the minimum or told him that he might have a better shot to shine elsewhere. I think Niko liked him, but it may have been an issue of fit.

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

I think Durkin is a guy who could give us 10 points in 20 minutes of PT if we work him into the right slots. I love having a guy that can come in at the right time and give you a couple swish threes. Right now there are a lot of guys in the mix who could change how we view things several months...

    Kai Shinholster back

For most of the past 15-20 years I would say, based on talent, Wisconsin has had amazing accomplishments. Each year you look at their roster and think, well maybe this year they finally will start to slide because the talent just doesn't appear to be enough. But they have had good coaches and a...

    Kai Shinholster back

I would disagree slightly that Niko is proposing to "develop guys". I believe he thinks these are guys who have been hidden on some loaded rosters. Evans has already been developed. Kordel and Grady were coveted frosh recruits that didn't get a shot on a national championship roster. Nolen...

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

The program building you have to do now (at our level) is: A) win enough to gain he confidence and enthusiasm of your donor base in order to.... B) keep enough of your core players who are fits to the system each year so that portal shopping is limited to 3-4 key additions each year and C)...
