Athletic: College football may be in danger

Why should players settle for scraps when they are the backbone of a sport that takes in billions of dollars every year? Should coaches, conference executives, media moguls, announcers, etc. all work for less money as well, or is it only the players that are 'overpaid', in your view?

If only the players would agree to work for peanuts, like they used to. Those were the good old days.

Gopher Legend and CFB HOFer Tom Brown Passes Away

Runner up for the Heisman. Outland Trophy winner. B1G MVP. UPI Lineman of the Year. Simply mind-blowing. This sort of thing will never occur again. Imagine in modern college football a two-way player (a lineman, mind you) winning the B1G MVP, or being runner up for the Heisman! A lineman...

So QBs "take" teams to championships? Sam Darnold "took" Seattle to their title? Is Sam Arnold better than Kyler Murray?

Big Ten, SEC Tell Congress There’s No Need to Pool TV Deals

It's fun to complain about our government, and we've all heard (or uttered ourselves) the "damn government" statements. My question is: what would constitute a better alternative?

All Things 2026 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

Regarding the bolded, I don't think that's true at all. Murray is an attractive option because Arizona is on the hook for the bulk of his salary for 2026 only. Any team that signs him would give him a one year deal at the league minimum, with AZ paying him the rest of his guaranteed money...

Well, ummmm... right here. Here's your post: "Everything that government touches is more than likely worse off than before. So I say gov piss off."

TJ Bush Pass Rush DE via Transfer Portal

Reggie White was primarily an end, but he did move to tackle occasionally. John Randle began his career as a tackle, and moved to end later in his career. Both are enshrined in Canton. It isn't all that unusual for defensive linemen to move inside or outside, and it can be extremely effective...

TJ Bush Pass Rush DE via Transfer Portal

Yes, you're right, we've seen it before. Highwayman asserted that no coach would 'waste' Smith by moving him inside on passing downs. My question was: how would moving Smith inside on passing downs be wasting him? I'd be interested in hearing the reasoning behind the assertion.

TJ Bush Pass Rush DE via Transfer Portal

The B1G is the best conference in college football, and the Gopher defense finished second in the league in sacks, behind only national champs Indiana. I'm trying to remember all the times the secondary got 'roasted'. They don't appear to keep stats on that...

    Fleck Signs New Contract!

No such banner exists, but cheer up: you can always claim there is a banner, and then angrily shake your fist at this imaginary banner while screaming, "Aim higher!"

    Fleck Signs New Contract!

Nobody has hoisted any banners. No one has asked anyone else to 'pretend' anything at all. Going 7-0 at home in the B1G has been a rare occurrence for this program. It's therefore worthy of being pointed out as an accomplishment, and someone has done so.

    Fleck Signs New Contract!

Have you seen or heard or read "outsized hyperbole" on this? I've seen posts on Gopher Hole that pointed out that having a 7-0 home record has been rare in Gopher football history, but that's simply stating a stone cold fact. It's certainly not hyperbolic. Calling a 7-0 record at home "sad", on...

    Mount Rushmore of gopher coaches

Spot on. How many seasons like 2019 did Mason have? How many non-conference wins did Mason have, vs. Fleck? Fleck's winning % in the B1G is much higher. According to Wiki, Mason won 64 total games at Minnesota; half of them were non-conference. Mason was 32-48 in the B1G. As far as the...
