All Things 2025-26 Other College Basketball Games Thread

He’s a decent coach/builder, but nowhere near good enough for UCLA to put up with this crap. I’m calling a coach change at UCLA. If you’re gonna have Bobby Knight frequency meltdowns you need Bobby Knoght results.

Shooter: Don’t be surprised if former Orono star Nolan Groves ends up with the Gophers for his sophomore season.

This whole thread came from a scoop from Shooter. Has anyone kept score to see how often his scoops come to fruition? Other than the bloody obvious (“A little birdie tells me the Twins and their 13.50 ERA might trade for a pitcher”), I don’t recall his gossips being right much.

If that’s sufficient to fire a guy for cause, Mick Cronin is SCREWED. He says that stuff each week.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT WASHINGTON VALENTINES 💘 NIGHT IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Ugly game. We weren’t very good and Washington was the anti- Loyola Marymount and took the air out of the basketball.

    NCAA Tournament Could it Happen?

We’re BTT title or bust, no different than really hapless power 5 teams. In your scenario, assuming 2 losses to Michigan, we’d be respectable against Q1 but would be only .500 against Q2 and Q3. Would be a hell of a finish, but the NCAA claims to not reward strong finishes

"KenPom is bull***t" Sit back an enjoy this four minute dialogue from Doug Gottlieb on the KenPom rankings. (mentions St. Thomas, Minnesota)

Some of what he’s saying, doesn’t account for injuries or recency, etc, is a known issue with any ranking model. And I think the NCAA refuses to consider those factors. My biggest issue with Kenpom is that it doesn’t limit blowouts, and as a result, teams are rewarded for blasting terrible...

    WOW!!!

We gotta stop with this Omot stuff. The poor guy has lost 2 years, it’s crazy to project him doing anything. It’s like Eric Curry all over again.

    WOW!!!

What?!?! You’re reading way too much into reactions. But let’s be honest. This loss sucked. For the first time in B10 play, we had the better talent and responded with a lousy first half. Kudos to the guys for rallying, but at the end of the day we did just enough to lose, which is now a...

Who is the first #Gophers player you think of when you see a picture of The Gem?

Chased by Brad Miller. It was like watching a wildbeest stampede on Animal Planet. But my vote is Coffey. Just a grinder. Without Willie Burton there is no Clem breakthrough, but Coffey embodied Clem.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT wisconsin IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

If he doesn’t, it’s a sign that either he’s injured/unhealthy or Niko’s doghouse is infinitely deep. The guy hasn’t played notably awfully in his limited court time, has he? I figured he wasn’t playing because he has missed ultimatums related to conditioning and his overgrown toddler body. If...

Skor North: Year one comparisons for Minnesota Gophers Niko Medved and Ben Johnson

What is the point of this exercise other than generate content? Everybody gave Ben a mulligan for year 1 anyway. I ain’t gonna listen, but if the narrative is Niko is ahead of where Ben was, how the F does that make anyone feel better? And if the narrative is Niko is not ahead, well, WGAS...

***OFFICIAL NEBRASKA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Didn’t watch, but noticed Durkin had trouble from 3 again. Never does much in the box score besides scoring either. For those who watch more than I do, if the outside shot isn’t falling, does he have any value?

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I think with those guys, we’d be deeper but not markedly better. Sure, Omot might have made a difference. Vaihola and Willis were healthy during (and contributed to) a stretch of horrendous ball. They’d likely have improved since then, but their injuries meant Reynolds and Grove have had to...

***OFFICIAL wisconsin AT MINNESOTA RIVALRY GAME IN-GAME THREAD, BETTER DEAD THAN RED!!!***

The flaw in this question is that Wisconsin’s not a real state anyway. If anyone knows where I can buy Grandpa Simpson’s 49-star flag, LMK.

Michigan had a month+ there where they were as dominant as any team I can recall. Before that they were merely good. Now I’m curious to see which is the norm and which is the outlier.

***OFFICIAL USC (MUSSELMAN BACK IN THE BARN) AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Not losing by 50, that’s a humiliation, but there’s truth that losing squeakers stick with you worse than losing decisively. When I was in school we played at Wisconsin (Clem v Yoder), we got the way the hell down even though Bucky wasn’t on our level, came all the way back only to lose on a...

    Reynolds is the man!

I think he’s the key to the season. Anyone watching the last 2 games without knowing who we are or how our season started would say we look like a solid (but thin and flawed) 1st weekend tournament team, and not coincidentally, Reynolds was great. If Reynolds’s last 2 games are the norm and not...

Horrendous officiating. You can’t assault refs, but if my livelihood depending on winning basketball games, my reaction wouldn’t have been much different.
