I’m not sure how to feel there. He seems to have good stats but somehow was left completely off all-conference lists. I get that all-conference lists can be subjective but being left off altogether is interesting.

Agreed that the wrong tone was used on my post. This kid looks like a potential depth piece for next year with upside for the future. A starting OT is still needed. Hopefully, they still have enough money allocated to obtain that player.

However, it looks like he is ranked an 88 and the 19th best OT in the portal by On3 but not rated by 247 yet.

People don’t always get fired when they should nor was there anything this year that indicated he shouldn’t have been let go. Managers are humans not some AI that immediately notices a trend an executes a change. The receiver corps couldn’t win against man nor could they make a contested catch.

The position has not been very good over that time period. He’s lost far more HS recruits than he’s developed. The recruiting hasn’t been great to start. Additionally, quantify the effect he’s had on players developing as opposed to players naturally acclimating to the speed of the game.

Rate Bowl offensive MVP isn’t a very high bar… Also, Matt Simon was also the coach when Smith had “too many drops”. Finally, how many all-conference WRs has he had since 2019? What’s his hit rate on HS WR recruits?

The WR room has not been very good for quite so time now.

Gundy did not put that program in a spot to be successful the last few years. Complete and total inability to adapt to the times.

Yeah, OK State was such a mess the last few years with Gundy I’m probably willing to give him a pass. According to Gundy, Nardo coached a 3 man front and Gundy didn’t let him bring coaches that had experience coaching that type of defense. Seems like he was set up to fail.

Also, taking a DB from Iowa is likely a worth while risk. As long as they had some sort of tangible experience.

Personally, I am NOT a fan of the first option. Koi is not bigger than the team and the money can be used places that have bigger impact. While I don’t necessarily like Koi leaving it can be a win-win situation. Koi gets what he thinks he wants and MN gets to re-allocate the money to improve...

While I think it’s possible to pick up solid players that had limited roles at P2/P4, I agree that it’s likely to have a higher hit rate by picking up top performers players from lower levels. Going the G5/FCS route will probably be cheaper too.

Based on the suitors and stats listed this would seem like a decent/good pickup but Cochnauer did not receive any level of all-conference recognition this year playing in the Mountain West.

Hopefully, it eats up enough of their funds that they can’t meet the rest of the needs.

I hope we see the gophers identify position that have to be good each year and be willing to spend on those positions and alternatively, I think there are positions that can/should be filled through HS recruiting. OL, DL, CB need to be good every year therefore targeted in the portal. I think...
