They already have a 5 star at safety. Plus Iowa has similar monetary limitations as the Gophers and they likely prioritize positions other than S. He’s going to a blue blood/school that spends a lot on NIL.

My understanding is that he got hurt before the year and couldn’t get in shape.

Marshall and Ray were complete evaluation misses. They weren’t good and neither played a style that matched what MN wanted to do on offense.

Additionally, the Gophers can’t win if Koi is one of the highest paid players on the team. PJ’s teams need to be built around the trenches first. That’s where the majority of investment needs to go.

    Koi Perich Transfer Portal

Unfortunate news but a team like MN has to put their money in far more impactful positions. If they’re paying a star S big money, it likely means that they had to go cheap upfront. Hopefully, this theory holds and they greatly improve the DL this offseason. The Gophers still have a good...

Where Gousby ends up will really depend on what they can get out of the portal. CB should probably right behind OL and DL on the priority list. 2 guys on the level of Ethan Robinson, Tre Jones or Jack Henderson and Gousby can probably stick at safety.

Not the best to lose a CB with starting experience but they needed to recruit over him in the portal anyway.

Yep, in the B1G, spending on OL/DL is a necessity while spending on S is a luxury. I’d hate to see Perich go but if those dollars to get sent to the trenches instead, its probably a net positive for the team.

OL is absolutely a spot where they should pay up. They can save money elsewhere.

I agree with this approach and would be fine if they limited their transfer additions to high impact players at these positions every year. Keep these core positions strong and everything else can generally be filled in through HS recruiting.

Gophers are expected to hire Stanford defensive coordinator Bobby April as its new rush ends coach.

What I read indicated that he was not going to be retained by Stanford’s new HC.

At this point, there are very few players I’m going to get up in arms about trading in the effort of making this team a real Stanley Cup contender. Take the swing. Deal with the aftermath later. I’ve been a Minnesota sports fan my whole life and can count on one hand the number of times a team...

That’s hardly true. If they kept Marco Rossi, it’s highly likely they’d still need a center better than Marco Rossi AND they wouldn’t have Quinn Hughes.

Right, people are overreacting to one loss. It was lopsided but the Wild played this game on the second of a back to back after playing a fast, dynamic team with the best player in the world the night before. There’s two more matchups left this season.

Definitely agree there. An upgrade over Yurov/Hartman is needed. The swing needs to be taken even if they can’t afford a top guy. Brayden Schenn, ROR, Blake Coleman are all on The Athletic trade board would represent improvements up the middle but would not fit the 1C mold.

Does it need to be a 1C or just an option that gets them closer to two 2Cs pushes Hartman/Yurov back to the wing? Obviously a 1C is preferred but do they have enough left in the chamber to swing that.

These owners can not make up their minds. If they’re going to severely limit payroll, just tear it down. Trade your valuable assets and get some future value. This way they probably let their valuable assets walk in free agency for no return or trade them at a later date for significantly less...
