Fitz has proven he can be a head coach. I think he became a little complacent his last few years at NU. I think the change to MSU will be good for him and he’ll get that spark back to do a decent job there.

But instead, they may have made it easier for the rich schools to stash players. Does anyone know if every P4 school is filling their rosters with 105 scholarship players? I would guess many are not.

Well, I’d give it to the team for better coaches, analysts and NIL. For whatever reason it seems Fleck can’t spend the money he has to hire better coaches, and probably analysts too. The question is why doesn’t he spend the funds promised to him? I think most answers start with Coyle.

I think successfully hiring less experienced coordinators usually happens when the head coach is a great strategist and game planner so he can teach young coordinators their job. I don’t think Fleck is that guy. He’s more of a CEO type and needs to hire coordinators that already know how to do...

Not saying it’s the reason why Salley decommitted, but it’s a good example why having respected coaches that can teach, plan and recruit are very important to a school like Minnesota. We may never compete with NIL to attract the better players, but having top notch coaches is one thing we can do.

Yes, he could have paid more. I think it was last year Fleck confirmed they didn’t use the entire coaching pool money. And he could have used that $600k buyout from Miami you mentioned to get an experienced DC.

Keeping the Bowl system relevant was one of the reasons I prefer an 8 team playoff (5 conference auto bids, and 3 at large to not miss a deserving team). But I did enjoy watching every game of the 12 team playoff last year. I doubt I’d be able to watch every game of a 16 team matchup.
