If they feel like he will fully heal and the issue won't be ongoing, I wouldn't consider it a "let's see what happens" situation. It would be a "are we confident we would find a better replacement for his roster spot?"
It would not surprise me at all if some players commit out of HS or transfer to a program with the agreement they will only play 9 games to keep their year of eligibility instead of sitting on the bench at a better program. Like a QB with good P4 offers going to a MAC, Sun Belt or even FCS...
I guess it just depends on if this might be an ongoing issue with Omot or not. We know little about what is actually going on. I think he's too talented to not try to get him back (if they think he will get back to 100%).
He's listed as a redshirt junior on the roster and I don't believe he ever took a regular redshirt year at UND so I'm guessing he got a medical hardship for last year only playing 4 games. Can a player use a regular redshirt after already being granted a medical hardship?
