All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

Makes a ton of sense to have CFB season end on NYD. I agree with it. As far as all Saturdays in December belonging to CFB, that would require an update to the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961. That act essentially prohibits NFL games being played on Saturday, but only until the 2nd Sat in...

    Typical fleck game

It's pretty hard to reason about it going forward because the Big Ten West over the 2021-2023 seasons was so weak.

    Typical fleck game

Thought I read that SEC schools said they were not going to increase scholarships beyond 85. As I assume you already understand, there is no mandate to increase scholarships to every player on the roster. Rather, you can give one to every player on the roster, if you want.

    Typical fleck game

That's new, starting just this 2025-26 offseason. So yes, that will undoubtedly increase the numbers of a lot of guys.

Video of Fleck locker room surfing after game

Agreed, with the words you said here in the way you've said them. Hypothetical for you: would it have still been just as fun of a celebration, just as cool, if Fleck simply went into the locker room clapping and yelling "Ski-U Mah!!" and it erupted in cheers from the players? You don't think...

Special Teams Coach Bob Ligashesky will not be retained for next season.

Callahan has earned (at least) one more year, and I think there's zero chance he won't get it. If the OL plays as abysmally as it did this year, again next year, then I think that's when you have to think about letting him go.

I don't doubt you, just wondering if there is a free link somewhere to these grades or if they're behind a paywall. Thanks!

Miami definitely belonged in the playoff. Just looking at their record, they had two regular season losses, one to Louisville by 3pts and one in OT to SMU by 6

SEC Bias: This is a reminder that LSU these last 5 years is the same as Minnesota, just with a lot more AP votes and more FCS wins.

LSU has had some wild swings. 15-0 and won natty in 2019, then self-imposed bowl ban for ... get this ... paying players! ... in 2020, then 2021 finish 6-7 with Orgeron stepping down. Then from 2022-25, Kelly goes 10-4, 10-3, 9-4 ... then 7-6 this year, fired. EDIT: Kelly himself went 5-3 (2-3...

Seems to be very common in college but far less so in NFL?

Agreed. That's why I specifically said if someone .... that means you did not say that.

Special Teams Coach Bob Ligashesky will not be retained for next season.

Great post! Largely agree ... here's the thing. Again, paraphrasing GGR (see post above): Callahan has shown he is elite at coaching OL when the offense is an RPO, and usually coached by Ciarrocca. Is he still elite in this new scheme? They mentioned that this was one of the worst OL...

Special Teams Coach Bob Ligashesky will not be retained for next season.

Paraphrasing GGR (Gopher Gridiron Radio -- Ryan James's podcast which features his cousin Derek, a former Gopher OL): Lig took Dragan Kesich, who was one of the best kickers in the Big Ten in 2023, and made the Gophers last in FG in the Big Ten in 2024 ... then turned in another last in the Big...

    What do we value?

I believe that if someone were to put forth a premise of "ANY current FBS staff could win a national championship, if you simply gave them unlimited money", then that premise would be false. Now, does that apply to Fleck specifically. Well ....

    What do we value?

They would need to be enrolled students at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and be in good standing academically, making progress towards a degree, and be eligible in college football for no more than five seasons. Otherwise, it's not college football. It's just XFL with University...

    How To Fix College Football

Outstanding post!!!! Huge point you bring up: while the Koi Perich's and Darius Taylor's of the college football world might stand to earn slightly less, the rest of the players would likely earn more under collective bargaining. I think one big sticking point of simply declaring that college...

Here is TxTech billionaire walking through blueprint for how they bought their way into the national spotlight. This is the new college football.

As far as I know, outside of Ohio State and maybe Penn State (?), this fact has not translated into large NIL collective support. Talking only for myself and my weird, pedantic viewpoints: I want all NIL collectives, across all schools who opt into the House settlement, to be killed off and...
