Wetzel: How NIL, transfers and rev share brought the SEC back to the pack

Alabama isn’t Alabama anymore because Nick Saban retired. The other stuff probably plays a part but likely isn’t the biggest contributor to their step back to the pack.

    Gopher portal visits and signings

Rashede Hageman was a mountain of a man and despite all of his physical gifts struggled his first few years at DT. Rashede is more physically gifted than Jaxon. Jaxon is listed at 250 and adding 20-30 lbs still puts him on the small side for a B1G. Rush end to DT is a big move. There’s likely...

All Things 2025/26 College Football Transfer Portal Thread

It appears to be due to sheer volume as the have 18 portal additions but none are terribly highly rated.

    Gopher portal visits and signings

He’s going to have to put 20-30 lbs on to do that. Also, I’m not sure Howard was really that stout against the run either. I assume if he “moved down” it would be from Rush end to DE. He’d probably only need to add 10-15 in that case.

    Gopher portal visits and signings

It probably won’t happen but I hope it doesn’t just lead to Anthony Smith’s most valuable skill being wasted playing the interior too often. This team still needs to have at least two B1G caliber starting DTs.

Official 2026 Roster Movement Thread - Who's In and Who's Out?

The interesting thing is that it appear 3 of them play Rush end and only Anthony Smith is a DE. I wonder if Howard or Bush slide over to DE and put their hand in the dirt when Smith needs a break.

    Koi Perich Transfer Portal

If these are anywhere near accurate and the Gophers were spending more than $1 million on Koi, they had far too much money allocated to a position that CFB obviously doesn’t value that highly.

    Projected 2026 Lineup

There’s 13 guys listed on offense too. So the post is some sort of a depth chart/starting lineup hybrid.

    Koi Perich Transfer Portal

This backs up my thought that safety and LB are the least valued positions on the field. Surprised at the value placed on interior OL though.

    Projected 2026 Lineup

Not getting blown off the ball in the run game would be nice too.

    Projected 2026 Lineup

If the Michigan State kid is any good, he probably ends up back at safety (or slot?).

    Gopher portal visits and signings

I believe that’s where Ethan Robinson came from as well.

    Projected 2026 Lineup

I’m guessing one of the guys listed as a safety plays the slot. Maybe Gousby given he played some CB this year?

    Projected 2026 Lineup

Carrier getting PT would be huge. He seems like the heir apparent to Baranowski.

    Projected 2026 Lineup

Don’t forget about Gousby at S. Adding a starting caliber OL, DT and potentially TE would be huge.

    Thoughts on Kenny Minchey

Times sure have changed since Maurice Clarett. Although given your points, the NCAA rules are probably more in danger than the NFL. There’s no CBA in college and it only takes one kid that isn’t good enough to play in the NFL but good enough to still play in the NCAA to challenge the...

    Thoughts on Kenny Minchey

Good points here but I wonder if the NFL rule could potentially be in jeopardy given the current atmosphere around sports.

    Thoughts on Kenny Minchey

Yeah, but those requirements are significantly higher and occur due to perceived decline in ability, competency, and safety etc. None of those things are true for an able bodied 22-24 year old. It’s an especially tough argument when they get pushed out of the NCAA and can go play in a pro...

    Thoughts on Kenny Minchey

Now that these players are getting paid, do they have a claim that their ability to earn should not be hindered by arbitrary eligibility rules? What other profession says you have to stop working here after x number of years even if you are still capable of performing the work?

    Boom

It’s probably fair to say that none of them lived up to their potential while at MN. Debating whether they had varying degrees of minimal impact is probably futile.
