Why wouldn't Taylor be back? He obviously could declare for the draft and he may fear he'll be too much of a workhorse if he stays. And he may want to play for a team with a functioning OL. But he has to prove he can stay healthy.
I fear that is going to be the model for a lot of lesser-recruited high school players. Go to a sold FCS program, redshirt (especially linemen) and build yourself up, see the field for a couple of years, impress FBS schools, transfer up.
There was an article that contended that Notre Dame's stomping out (and KSU and Iowa State as well though more politely) that the bowls just don't matter that much anymore and teams opting out could lead to a death spiral. That might be going overboard. As long as ESPN is selling ads and...
There is SEC bias, but I don't see how Notre Dame can ever complain seeing they've benefitted from pro-Fighting Irish bias over the years.
Bottom line: Someone is always going to be left out and the bigger they make the field there's going to be more teams on the margins. If James Madison and...
Note on Kollack. I mentioned Cal as a possibility if their current true freshman QB moved on, but he is staying put (at least for another year) and that might influence Kollock's decision (of which I know nothing about).
We saw it with Ward last year and this year with Mendoza and Beck (to some extent). Highly-ranked HS QBs go to a mid-level school (again, not Beck per se) get experience and transfer up to a helmet school as a sort of finishing school to prep for the pros. Kind of like baseball to an extent...
I agree it should be 8, but they should just skip over 12 to get rid of the bye and go to 16 if they want to open the field a bit. The byes are simply a bad idea.
And picking up on that theme, Kollock will be a redshirt freshman at his next stop.
It's made me think about how important recruiting QBs will be. Obviously, you need a good one but guys who are brought in as freshman probably gauge what's ahead of them and transfer sooner rather than later...
All I can say is that Cal won seven games this year with a true freshman at QB. My point was if that kid moves on, Cal is a somewhat logical landing spot for Kollock (who had a Cal offer out of high school).
If the Cal QB enters the portal Kollock might be on the Bears' list of possible replacements. California offered Kollock out of high school. It will be interesting to see where he ends up playing. Had some good offers during his initial recruiting.
Some members of the local media just use "storming the court/field" as fodder to gripe. I don't listen to KFAN (or much talk radio) much anymore, but I imagine Barreiro will talk about this for about 15 minutes.
Let the kids be kids. I'm in my 70s and never stormed a court/field (even when my...
I agree, but there needs to be improvement on the OL and we have to get a WR that can stretch the field. Stevens can likely make an impact in the return game and his speed could be useful (probably out of the slot).
It's too bad the Voss isn't an early enrollee, but I can't blame him for...
That's all true, but it seems the decisions often don't fall in line within the context of the game. The counterargument to my point is O'Connell probably thought he had to think outside the box and somehow get a lead when in a situation to do so with Max under center and hope the defense could...
Ever since Dan Campbell started going for it on 4th-and-whatever, every coach in the league seems to think he has to do the same thing regardless of game situation. Take the points there and hope your defense can keep you in the game. Can't assume the field goal would have been good (although...
It sounds counter-intuitive but I was seeing someting similar to what O'Connell was saying. Brosmer was getting a little jumpy and not letting plays develop. Of course, the Seahawks were all over him so he had good reason to rush things or get sacked twice as many times as he did.
I thought...
