JJ Watt is the biggest miss in recent(ish) Gopher history. Could you imagine his brothers following him?
Agreed. They mentioned during the Vikings game that with Brosmer they wanted to switch to a pro-style offense instead of the RPO scheme we ran with Ciarocca and Co. I feel like our OL wasn't good enough to really truly allow us to run that offense like we had wanted to. I hope we either are able...
I'm calling out playcalling in the sense that we run a lot of inside zones that always go for losses. It's up to the OC to adapt to the team and OL that he currently has to put them into positions to succeed.
Our OL has been terrible but let's not act like OL under Brian Callahan hasn't been a strength for a majority of his time here. It's definitely more player execution (and play calling) this year.
Had a little time today so let's do a breakdown of the 2008 class, which is the highest rated class in MN history (16th via rivals and how it unfolded. Outside of Gray and Cooper, this group didn't amount to much! :/
4 Stars:
Marquies Gray: Ended up starting at WR/Qb and was a solid player...
That is a fair point, but I was referring Iowa against the known NIL powers like OSU, Texas Tech, and now even Indiana, etc. Even before NIL and in their "down" years they have at least been competitive towards the top Big 10 teams.

Looks like we're supposed to flip a QB and add another to the class? I don't pay for on3 but I'd assume it's the VT Commit Cole Bergeron?
I totally hear you and agree. Iowa's level of success is absolutely something I would like to see here and should be what PJ strives for. There is no reason that he can't. He doesn't need to go the CFB every year, but it would be nice to have a shot once every blue moon to actually make it. We...
Iowa crushed us (again), lost by 5 to #2 Indiana, and Oregon needed a last second FG to beat them. My point is they at least consistently compete against the top teams and have a chance. We consistently get CRUSHED in those games.
Agreed. And that is why I won't be told it's just a money problem as to why the Gophers don't take the next step up. Fleck raised the floor for Gopher football and I am grateful for that but his on the field coaching has consistently held us back.
I would agree with this if we didn't see Iowa and other teams with far less money still compete every year and find ways to win without the extra money. It all comes down to coaching and PJ and company consistently get out-coached against these big schools.
Minus him having a couple receptions he really hasn't made an impact on offense or special teams either. I wouldn't hate removing him as PR or KR to free him up to focus solely on safety.
Agreed. Old Southwest conference schools were all essentially in 2A besides Marshall and Worthington. Playing Marshall was always a good litmus test for the smaller schools!
