Was surrounded by many Husker fans at the stadium, of course they mostly sat on their hands. However, after the field goal a Nebraska guy behind me goes "Harriet, that does it, we're driving back tonight!" and promptly left the stadium.
Brewster still generates a lot of bad taste in certain Gopher supporters - wore a Brewster Gophers T-shirt to a poker game of my tailgate buddies last year - was almost thrown out of the house...... Only let me play if I promised to burn it
"P.J. Fleck is BEST Minnesota Gophers coach in 75 years!"
Assuming they are only talking about football - that's a pretty low bar. Overall, I would say Herb Brooks would get my vote
While he has infuriated many on this website over the years (and at times I believe he purposely eggs Gopher fans on - just to see the reaction), some of his more "human interest" sports stories about various legacy players and teams are why I still enjoy his writing.
Good point - their non-conference "P4 game" was against Oklahoma State (who is, by far, the worst team in P4). The Nov games against Iowa in Iowa City and home against USC may give a better indication of where they are at
Many people left early from our section (207) because they were not dressed appropriately. Everyone was in short-sleeve T-shirts during the tailgating and did not think the temps (along with the wind) would require jackets/sweatshirts in the stadium.
Now that Franklin is gone, it is almost hard to believe that, of current head coaches, Fleck is the second longest tenured in the B1G (longest? - Ferentz of course)
For the record, the Gophers:
1977 - Defeated #1 Michigan at home 16-0
1961 - Defeated #1 Michigan State at home 13-0
1960 - Defeated #1 Iowa at home 27-10
I have posted this before regarding games in "The Shoe" - but wanted to say "you were warned"
Regarding an OSU trip? FWIW - here is my report from the 2023 game:
If you have never been to Ohio Stadium, it might be worth one visit for the “experience.” I have gone to several games over the...
Would agree with everything you said. And while he is somewhat mobile (the scramble/rollout throw to Tracy for 27 yards was my favorite completion today), he is not a runner at all - in fact I think he actually has run avoidance. It would be nice to at least be able to freeze some linebackers...
Agree 100%. Occasionally we might hear an injury update of value ("so-and-so will not be returning"), but that's about it. Always amused at the "Coach, you are down 27-0. What are you going to tell your players at halftime?" Response - "we gotta play smarter."
A $20 million fine has gotta hurt at least a bit - even for Michigan. Will certainly give opposing fans some vocal ammunition - especially when on the road to schools like OSU or PSU. Not sure if the 25% reduction in official visits for 2025-26 really means much at all.
Going back about 20 years prior to that - I think Sid (who died in 2020) may have been the last person alive who personally witnessed Bruce Smith's spectacular 80-yard-run vs Michigan in 1940.
The Minnesota 0-6 loss to Northwestern in 1936 was the Gopher's first loss in four years (there were some ties in 1933). The Gophs were still National Champs because of a NW non-conference loss to Notre Dame in their final game of the year.
Thought that the Gophers 7-0 win over Michigan in 1941...
