***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS SANTA CLARA THIRD-PLACE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

He must be really slow then because the whole team looks slow (couldn't resist the set-up). Seriously, it's going to be a long year. I think Medved has a better idea of what he wants to do than Johnson did, but you still need players. Medved will get a fair shake.

Is Emmett Johnson biggest miss ever

My brother taught at CDH and while he wasn't involved with the football program, he surmised that for some reason there was a disconnect between the U and the CDH program (and it lasted through a string of Gopher coaches). I remember it was a big deal when Brewster got commitments from John...

I think McCarthy will turn out to be a decent professional quarterback. From watching him, I think his biggest problem now is that he's too confident in his abilities and as a result is making a ton of bad decisions. He has to play within the game at this point until he has the experience to...

And Weinke after he gave up baseball. Edit: We did offer Weinke.

Is Emmett Johnson biggest miss ever

Gopher Mac is correct. Mason recruited J.J. Watt as a TE and seeing Mason had a penchant for putting all the athletes on offense, Watt is probably lucky that things turned out the way they did. Mason even tried to make 4-star Edge/LB Alex Daniels into a running back. He transferred to...

I am pretty sure they scout players extensively before offering.

As I recall, Hull never received a formal offer but did meet with Fleck. Fleck supposedly said something to the effect that we'll offer if you sign right now. Hull wanted to wait so no offer was forthcoming. I coiuld be totally wrong on this, but I think that is how it was reported on this board.

Fleck: This is still a developmental program. Year nine has nothing to do with it. Every year is its own entity. We lost nine NFL players last year…

In retrospect, they should have opened up the bank for Daniels. Somewhere in the neighborhood of:

    Who walks on Saturday?

Ask Diego Pavia. He's going to play college football until he's old enough to collect social security.

    Who walks on Saturday?

Agree. It's always hard to tell with DEs/Edge players. I thought Joyner would be drawing an NFL paycheck (if only on a practice squad) but he's not. Smith is better than Joyner, but if he projects as a Day 3 guy I have to think he'll return to school, either here or at a helmet school.

I agree. My beef this year is that there's just no excuse for the 2025 offensive line situation. My only caveat is that I think the defense has underachieved. This was going to be a transitional year with a redshirt freshman QB, but the offensive line issues have made the running game stuggle...

Haven't around much because as the saying goes, "If you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say anything." I don't like (but don't mind) getting our butts kicked by the big dogs, but we always seem to underperform against Northwestern and have blown so many big leads against them over the...

Yes. Unlike the pros, sacks are considered rushes in college. I remember arguing with a high school classmate about that in the early-1970s.

Lindsey has gotten better over the past couple of weeks about realizing when he has to give up on the routes and tuck it and go, but he doesn't look like a gazelle out there so any gains on busted plays will likely be minimal. That's not his game, so we live with it. I believe what many of us...

I don't know if he is a fallback if Bergeron flips, but Mission Hills (CA) 3-star QB Troy Huhn is listed as "warm" for Virginia Tech. Franklin recruited him when he was at Penn State. Huhn's offer list is more impressive than Bergeron's, but that may be a function of Bergeron committing to...

If the blue bloods left for a "super league", who would be hurt more, them or the also-rans like us?

I think there would be a lot more parity. Going back to one of my points in an earlier post, teams in a higher-tiered league would absolutely recruit the heck the best players in the lesser league and if the portal applies to the higher-tiered league, you will see players leaving programs for...

If the blue bloods left for a "super league", who would be hurt more, them or the also-rans like us?

I think you would see a lot (not everyone of course) of lesser-recruited players or QBs that want to play right away end up in the also-ran league and then step up to the Blue Bloods for their third and any subsequent seasons (when I say any, after the Pavia court case some guys will be playing...
