Post Game Thread: Oregon Fumbles TD, Blows Out Gophers

The last two games are 50/50 situations against peer opponents. Beat NU & UW and the season’s story is at least winning the winnable conference games. Any other outcome and we look like/are a program in decline. A fateful eight quarters are upon us: We’ll see how the coaches handle it.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT OREGON PRIME TIME UNDER THE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I love the explanation of the non-holding call on the screen. He released the defender from the hold after the receiver ran by him. Now that’s an interesting interpretation of the rule.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT OREGON PRIME TIME UNDER THE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

We thank Oregon for Bobby Moore. Now let’s demonstrate our ingratitude by knocking the Ducks out of the playoffs with a massive road upset.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT MISSOURI IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

It’s a better coached team but we’re going to see loads of zone defense to negate our motion offense. How Nico adjusts is an early test of his coaching ability at the P-4 level.

Correlation may not be causation but Durkin has been the common denominator for both Missouri runs.

    No mention of Mizzou game...

There was a time through the Musselman/Dutcher/Haskins generation when Gopher basketball was often the second biggest sports story—behind only the Vikings. Now it has a niche following/fan base. It is sad.

Describe Gophers win over MSU in 1 sentence

Never has a winning team been more deserving of a loss—but I’ll gratefully accept the largesse of the college football gods.

***OFFICIAL MICHIGAN ST AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Remembering Steve Neil’s’ interception of a triple option pitch (incredible play) in Minnesota’s 14-10 win over MSU & Duffy Daugherty in 1972. Gopher players carried Cal Stoll off the field after the win.

    Gopher Hockey Season Thread 25-26

Thank you for the informative post. Based on your analysis—and results to date—the season is over by Halloween except for the playing of the inevitable losses. Hard to believe how far we’ve fallen.

    Congrats Logan Cooley

I suppose we should move on in life but has anybody heard an explanation from the coach for starting the OT without his major talent on the ice?

In hindsight, this outcome is not that surprising. This is Mark Gronowski's sixth year as a starting college QB.

Yesterday in Iowa City: Big running QBs have been kryptonite for Minnesota forever. See Kalizmicki (sp?) in the ‘79 Minnesota-Wisconsin and then forever more. It’s weird. Also see Seabee’s point 4(e). Just throw it in the general direction of the wide receiver.

AT WHAT POINT DO YOU SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

I’ve attended more than 1500 Gopher football/hockey/basketball/baseball games. Rationally, I should have said it long ago given all the heartbreak/despair/and occasional disgust (like yesterday). That said, it’s multi-generational in our family and when it’s time for the next game we go hoping...

    We stink.

    Oregon was a good team.

Describe the Gophers loss to Iowa in 1 sentence

The extra day of preparation overwhelmed our senses.

    This is a fireable offense

Defense recovered in the second quarter once the appropriate personnel change was made. The offense and the special teams are suffering a melt-down afternoon.
