ANNUAL GOPHERHOLE PICTORIAL COUNTDOWN TO GOPHERS SEASON OPENER!!

Our first possession looked like a three & out but Rhys Lloyd scampered for the first down. Did we punt in the game? It was payback for the embarrassing loss at Toledo in 2001.

ANNUAL GOPHERHOLE PICTORIAL COUNTDOWN TO GOPHERS SEASON OPENER!!

Had a chance to beat Michigan, Wisconsin & Iowa for the first time since 1967 (I believe) and blew it. Now that streak has 57 years…

MN Daily: Crystal Ball: How Minnesota football could finish in 2025

Each additional Gopher victory deepens the angst of the ‘Husker fans. Losing to Minnesota is an abomination in their eyes—let alone year after year.

    Pierce Petersohn to announce tomorrow!!!

If it’s PSU it’s hard to quarrel with the decision— given the program’s success with tight ends and linebackers. That said, the Minnesota kids who play on the Gopher football team that busts down the door (and the talent which PJ is accumulating makes it possible) will be folk heroes...

Paul Finebaum: What's a loss from your favorite sports team you still can't get over?

In section 243 we had a putz who dressed like Harbaugh who would stand up & bow with expansive gestures after a big Michigan play. He was the subject of much ridicule after the Wolitarsky catch until he got the last laugh, sadly.

All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

While the Brewers fans are chortling about sweeping the Twins in a three game series on the road for the first time in 37 years—I always smile remembering Jerry Koosman shutting out the Brewers on the last day of the 1979 season for his 20th win. It was the only time the Brewers were shut-out...

    Wisconsin Badgers are idiots

Good for the Badgers—discovery should expose in great detail this specific dark underside of college athletics: how players are winked & nodded from one program to another via third parties and the cash which changes hands.

Paul Finebaum: What's a loss from your favorite sports team you still can't get over?

BS holding call against us on a running play in OT killed us. Tyrone Carter was knicked-up & missed a defensive possession and UW scored a touchdown. Never understood why the football gods smiled upon Barry Alvarez other than AD Richter & President Shalala had the audacity to dream big for...

Paul Finebaum: What's a loss from your favorite sports team you still can't get over?

In 1989, we were beating Ohio State 31-0 late in the second quarter and had forced a punt to give us the last possession of the half. Instead, we committed a penalty (too many men on the field; roughing the kicker—can’t remember) and the Buckeyes retained possession. They scored a touchdown...

Paul Finebaum: What's a loss from your favorite sports team you still can't get over?

There’s also the “phenomenon” of the big Gopher win/upset followed by the seemingly inevitable defeat. (Now I may be cherry-picking, or anti-cherry picking to prove a point.) 1981: Beat OSU; lose to Michigan State 1984: Win at UW; lose to Northwestern 1993: Beat UW; lose to Illinois 2000: Win...

Paul Finebaum: What's a loss from your favorite sports team you still can't get over?

There was the bizarre sequence of events: Tyler Johnson drops the fourth down pass at the two and we give up the ball on downs. But wait, Iowa is called for a late hit. But wait, because it’s a dead ball penalty and fourth down, Iowa takes possession and the penalty is only half the distance...

Paul Finebaum: What's a loss from your favorite sports team you still can't get over?

Still say on fourth & two feet with Maroney we should have gone for it on fourth down—no different, really, then being inside the one on fourth down and going for the winning touchdown. Indeed, even if we had not botched the punt there was a decent chance Wisconsin would have driven for the...

Paul Finebaum: What's a loss from your favorite sports team you still can't get over?

Ditto & the 1981 and 2023 hockey finals losses along with the Georgia Tech Elite Eight loss (the SEC crew screwing Minnesota all afternoon long down to the Willie Burton technical still burns deep)…

Shama: Medved is a popular hire as the new men’s Golden Gophers basketball coach. That won’t translate immediately into big crowds at The Barn though

Back in the day the non-conference schedule featured serious midwestern opponents: Marquette; Loyola (Chicago); Drake; Bradley; Iowa State; Creighton. I understand scheduling is now more complicated but one home game against a top 70 or so regional opponent would be a good start.

He must have been impressed by our 2003 Sun Bowl win.

ANNUAL GOPHERHOLE PICTORIAL COUNTDOWN TO GOPHERS SEASON OPENER!!

The Auburn and Colorado games were incredible Gopher traveling experiences and because of the Covid season they were back-to-back fan opportunities. The Tyler Johnson touchdown and the Lawrence Maroney 80 yard touchdown run at Michigan in 2004 were the most exciting plays I’ve seen in my 30 or...

All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Difference was moving a runner from second to third late in a tight, low-scoring game. France gave it a good shot but couldn’t get the ball past the pitcher. Altuve succeeded with his dribbler. It’s also astonishing the Twins have no choice apparently but to bat Vazquez to lead off the 10th.
