Could Still be a Charmed Season

I think I know your new favorite word …

Fire Coyle, Fire Fleck! Rip the Band-Aid off!!!

Not sure PJ would ever consider it. Much, much more money and fame in coaching.

    Northwestern favored by 5.5

Don't disagree on low scoring slugfest. Neither offense is particularly gifted ... or fast ... or creative ... or multi-faced. But I don't believe that DT can alone make up for what has been, to date, a pretty poor OL play with respect to the running game. {Better, it seems for passing plays...

Fire Coyle, Fire Fleck! Rip the Band-Aid off!!!

Wanted to get that potential sixth win for bowl eligibility? Maybe PJ had seen the OL and knew what the future held.

Fire Coyle, Fire Fleck! Rip the Band-Aid off!!!

I actually think PJ would be a much better and inspiring AD than Coyle. If PJ worked as hard at fundraising, with same disciple as he does at recruiting, we might have a much improved NIL landscape. Might end up with a little better game day HC, too.

    Northwestern favored by 5.5

One dissimilarity: NW has a very decent run game and has outscored the Gophers in B1G play. The Gophers have a poor run game. Can be a big factor outdoors in last November. NW's defense is also better than the Gopher's. And this year's Gopher team has been epically bad on the road, for God knows...

In the Gophers 3 Big Ten loses this season, Minnesota has been out scored 125-19.

In terms of points vs. points allowed, NW is a significantly better team than either Purdue or Michigan State. And I don’t see how you can say we would have beaten Michigan State, Purdue or Rutgers had they been road games. These were close wins and this year’s Gophers have played awfully on the...

B1G Ten Standings - Deeper Look

Also would show the Badgers have played a truly tough schedule. They might be bad this year, but perhaps not as bad as everyone thinks. If the Gophrrs fail against NW, watch out.

    How many points…

Norrhwestern’s offense has out-scored Minnesota’s this year, and Northwestern’s defense has allowed fewer points than Minnesota’s. And the Gophers are on the road where, in all four games this year, they have played like crap or worse. The point spread is, sadly, justified. The Gophers are...

Fire Coyle, Fire Fleck! Rip the Band-Aid off!!!

To be clear, the University of Oregon is probably funding players at a level no more than the University of Minnesota is. Perhaps even less. The big money for Oregon players is coming from outside the University system. No one expects the University of Minnesota Regents to dig into the school’s...

    Replace Greg Harbaugh Jr. With?

Hire Hauck. He’ll bring the Hauck Tua offense.

    Replace Greg Harbaugh Jr. With?

Need more north-south; too much east-west.

    Replace Greg Harbaugh Jr. With?

I know it sounds naive, but I am suggesting a couple of uber-goals, against which all the subsidiary goals related to scheme, personnel, etc. are measured. It's like a company setting a revenue goal of $10M per year. There will be a plethora of subsidiary goals and strategies and tactics, but...

    Replace Greg Harbaugh Jr. With?

Iowa set a simple goal a few years back: on average, score a minimum of at least 25 points per game. This year Iowa is scoring at 27.5 points per game in the B1G. The Gophers are scoring at a pace of only 18 points per game in the B1G this year. It is a near miracle that the team's record in the...

Could Still be a Charmed Season

For all the angst and disappointment this season, the Gophers still stand at 4-3 in the B1G and could (maybe should) finish the season 6-3 in the B1G. How lucky have the Gophers been to date? Here are the scoring differentials of all the B1G teams with 4-3 records (points for; points against...

Fire Coyle, Fire Fleck! Rip the Band-Aid off!!!

The blue bloods didn't "handle" NIL; the outside boosters handled it. The schools just tagged along and reaped the benefits.

Disappointing blowout losses to Ohio St and Oregon

The Iowa blowout was by far the most humiliating, because Iowa doesn't enjoy the massive talent advantage of Ohio State and Oregon. It is just a lot better coached.

This might be as good as it gets for football

You can have a very talented army, but lose most of your battles because your battle plans are transparent and predictable, and because you haven't matched your strategy to the strengths of your soldiers. It's tough to blame the fighting men when their generals might not be up to the task.

Fire Coyle, Fire Fleck! Rip the Band-Aid off!!!

Who'd I rather have? I'd try Fleck as AD (he'd raise NIL money, if anybody can, and he would super-charge the Department); at HC, an experienced offensive coordinator who loves to recruit; at OC, a creative mind who doubles as a QB whisperer; and at DC, Phil Parker. At least two more wins per...
