***OFFICIAL wisconsin AT MINNESOTA PAUL BUNYAN 🪓 RIVALRY GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Time for a Perich pick. Whiskey will try to extend the field a bit.

Nestor looked like had a hitch in his stride on that pick. Hopefully OK.

There must be zero Gopher receivers open downfield. Unreal.

    Field goals

According to PFF going into this game, Denaburg was the sixth worst FG kicker in Power 4 with Wisconsin's Vakos one spot behind at fifth worst...so we got that going for us.

If it keeps snowing, the second half will be determined by turnovers and missed tackles/assignments that go for big yards.

Whether Nestor was touching him or not as he stepped out and in was no more clear and convincing than the feet.

Sure looked like he stepped out of bounds before reestablishing. I guess not....

I take that back. Flipped to K State just down the road.

Maybe a more highly rated Hendryx coming in a few days ago was related? Academic issues?

    Danny Collins

It sucks when a Power 4 team hires coordinators that learn on the job with no prior coordinator experience. That hadn't been the case under Fleck until Harbaugh and Collins. Harbaugh seems to be figuring it out but it's taken a while. Will we need to wait for another two years for the defense to...

    Fleck: ‘We’re a 6-5 football team, this isn’t 2-10’

I legitimately thought 8 wins regular season barring major injury. Close but no cigar. Losses to OSU, Oregon and Iowa were almost written in stone (in my opinion) and I assumed the Gophs would figure out a way to lose to a mediocre peer. Make it at least two of those peer losses. The...

    Cal Fires Justin Wilcox

Fleck has one of his best recruiting classes coming in next year. He needs at least 2-3 more years to see this out IMO (I've been flip flopping on this since last year). That doesn't mean the staff shouldn't be scrutinized. I think the revolving door of coordinators the past few years led to...

    I will bet anyone here...

The 2023 Rossi defense was worse.

Post Game Thread: Gophers Lose Back and Forth Game to Northwestern, Fall to 6-5 as Defense Struggles Again

Perich, Lindsey, receivers and backs played great. #2 played some of the worst linebacker play I’ve ever seen. Whoever they rotate in to play right DE makes it worse by not protecting #2. Smith was nonexistent except for missing tackles on the ball carrier. Refs allowed the NW O Line to hold...

Stop telling half of college football they don’t belong.

I remember disliking the BCS but now I look back with nostalgia. The big bowl games still mattered and stood on their own.

Stop telling half of college football they don’t belong.

I like the current system of 5 auto bids to conference champions. It awards a great season to teams that proved it on the field, not just in some pollster's mind (heavily swayed financially by the SEC/ESPN). Heck, with the top of the BG10 & SEC pulling away from the pack, the ACC and Big 12...

    We're Soft

The run defense is actually solidly mid-pack in conference play this year giving up 142 ypg. Not great but not horrible. That hopefully improves a bit the next couple game. Rossi's 2023 defense actually finished last place in the conference at giving up 166 ypg. I think the perception seems like...

Gophers Fleck on closing the gap against top teams: "...Just because you want that doesn't mean that's going to happen."

I'd say Indiana does have the advantage of having Purdue as its only protected annual rivalry, Purdue being a perennial bottom program, so it will have years without its huge bugaboo Ohio State on its schedule. For example, even though Iowa has been nowhere near Ohio State's level, it might as...

Gophers Fleck on closing the gap against top teams: "...Just because you want that doesn't mean that's going to happen."

Not just dollars, but also hitting lightning in a bottle with NFL quality 1-year transfer quarterbacks that embrace the system and a lot of luck with both the schedule and injuries. What Indiana is doing is not sustainable. MN was close to that in 2019 but couldn't close the deal.
