Match 16: Gophers host Michigan (11-17-24)

Two more interesting stats: Shaffmaster only served 7x and Hansen only 9x. In contrast, Grote 14x, Palabiyik 17x, McGhie 17x and Acevedo (7 aces and only ONE error!) 34x. And one more: 13 assists for Z.

    B1G Match 14: Gophers host Oregon (11-9-24)

Season is headed south. Good thing they still have matches in Lincoln and Madison. Cupcakes.

I need to change my prediction.

    B1G Match 14: Gophers host Oregon (11-9-24)

I'm calling it now. I predict the Gophers win this one. Because it's that kind of a season.

    B1G Match 13: Gophers host Washington (11-7-04)

Maybe just maybe Landfair received WAY too much "credit" for how poorly they played last year. They are a solid top 25 team. They are NOT even close to a top 16 team. Btw, they are now 0-3 against teams I'd consider their peers -- Purdue, Washington and USC. Their win over Wisconsin was against...

Yes, that's an advantage they probably have. That's always been a problem for volleyball. Look to the future and help create a NEW 5,700 spectator program, or just take the cash now. Keep drinking from the same trough. See Omaha and ANY volleyball event looking for a place to play.

Otoh they could be looking for any excuse to spread the wealth -- give some other schools a shot at hosting. Which, honestly, wouldn't be a bad idea. But I was very surprised they were in the first reveal ...

    B1G Match 12: Gophers visit Michigan (11-3-24)

Middle attack is non-existent again. A concern, although having Wucherer scoring again sure helps.

B1G Match 10: Gophers visit Ohio State (10-27-24)

Teams they should have beaten but lose to = bad losses But, like I said, they aren't really bad losses if we just admit the team isn't a top 16 team. They aren't.

B1G Match 10: Gophers visit Ohio State (10-27-24)

I'd consider the USC loss a bad one. Extenuating circumstances, but still. Baylor and TCU were also bad losses, but Wisconsin and Texas wins balance those out. Purdue at home was also not great.

Louisville over Pitt. You just can't make it up. Man, there are a lot of weak teams in the B1G this year.

B1G Match 10: Gophers visit Ohio State (10-27-24)

My concern is that OSU controlled the outcome of this match -- by playing well and then by absolutely stinking up the joint. I wish this team had the ability to dominate from start to finish against their peers, but I really don't think they do. USC and Purdue (not to mention Baylor and TCU)...

    B1G Match 9: Gophers host Northwestern (10-23-24)

Hanson was great, but that may have been KT's best match as a Gopher. (And Gray's for that matter.)

SMU's loss to Stanford today is a perfect example. They were swept, but outscored by only 7 points -- and last set was 35-33. All losses are not the same.

Even worse, it doesn't differentiate between 3-0 sweeps and 3-2 wins (or losses). Nor does it care if you lose sets by 2 points. It is a seriously flawed metric to use for something as important as NCAA tournament seeding. (And, yes, I know it supposedly isn't the ONLY thing they use.)
