The SEC is dominating the Big Ten in ratings — despite on-field parity

One thing I noticed this year, in particular, is that it seemed like every week the Big Ten games I clicked on were boring matchups. Good team vs. mediocre team or bad vs. bad. Too few high-level matchups spread out among too many places. Whereas the SEC had their best game on one network (CBS)...

2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

No reciprocity, but they have a fairly easy bar for Minnesota students to hit to have tuition reduced $6,000-$8,000 to make it similar (I don't remember the specific dollars or process). Both my daughters toured it 8-10 years ago and one really liked it but didn't attend for other reasons. Easy...

2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

If I remember correctly, Mullen wanted $5 million per year total for him and his staff at that time. (I'm not sure if it was reported in the paper or only here.) Back then, that seemed crazy -- at least in these parts. Mason was making $1.65 million per year. Would've loved to see Mullen could...

Any Chance Niko can get Fleck to loan him Koi Perich?

I actually was thinking about this during the game last night. No, Koi Perich isn't going to join the team, nor is any other current Gopher football player. But with injuries and foul trouble, we sure could use another big body in the middle just bang people around, block out a little and use up...

    Fleck: ‘We’re a 6-5 football team, this isn’t 2-10’

I agree with this, and that's what makes me doubly depressed about this season. I can live with ups and downs for a program like ours, although it's still difficult to live through. I'm glad our "down" is still a bowl season. However, when we have a chance to make some hay, we need to take...

    Fleck: ‘We’re a 6-5 football team, this isn’t 2-10’

I'm not pooh-poohing a six- or seven-win season, and I'm enjoying Wisconsin's agony as much as anyone. But with this defense and offensive line, if we played Wisconsin's schedule we could be 3-8 or 2-9 right now.

    Cal Fires Justin Wilcox

Second year in a row we've lost to a team disappointed enough to fire their coach.

Where are you sitting at Wrigley?

Same with our group of seven. The past few times we've gone to Evanston we've paid about $7 per ticket. Sellers on the secondary market are playing a game of chicken with buyers for Wrigley. We're in no hurry to buy, because we feel like the tickets and prices available now will still be there...

Augsburg (#2 in the country) also advanced to the Sweet 16. Gustavus lost in the first round.

    First Drive defense

How many blown coverages on one drive would make it a coaching issue? Not saying its a coaching issue rather than talent. But at some point, bad execution all game long and all season long at is a coaching issue.

Reusse: Is P.J. Fleck the answer to lift the Gophers out of mediocrity?

No question about that. But at age 62, he had about as many Power 4 schools interested in him as Brewster did. It was an out of the box hire; Brewster was for different reasons, obviously.

Reusse: Is P.J. Fleck the answer to lift the Gophers out of mediocrity?

We tried a Cignetti once. His name was Brewster. Didn't work that time, as I recall.

Reusse: Is P.J. Fleck the answer to lift the Gophers out of mediocrity?

Here are the yearly averages at the new stadium, according to the U. (Announced, not scanned tickets.) 2015 was the year after the Citrus Bowl, with the extra seats for the Vikings. The first scholarship seating requirement came after that year and the second came in 2017. That killed us...

Pair and a Spare podcast: Fan vs Observer

Well, the rant wasn't necessarily about observers. It was about NIL and people here always assuming immediately that someone like Drake Lindsey will leave for more money after the season. He says that doesn't happen anywhere else. He said anywhere he goes -- Cub, hockey practice, etc. -- that's...

    Tunnel Team?

Our group did the tunnel team for the first time against Rutgers. It was tough getting info from the marketing people on when to be there and where to go. But, yes -- you get there 30 minutes and basically stand and wait. There was a guy doing trivia with the crowd as we waited, and we won a...

Wisky Fans calling it like they see it.....

I understand what you're saying. But when the Gophers have injuries or bad luck, and nobody gives a damn. To the outside world, we're just bad. This year, Wisconsin is bad. It doesn't matter why, unless we're talking about how it might affect next year.

    Husker Travelers

Wait, people actually expect to get inside? I mean, I know it happens, but don't expect it. :) Also, take cash to Stub & Herb's and Buffalo Wild Wings -- they're cash only outside. And, the drink lines will be long. I'm not trying to be critical; we go to both and like them.

"If Minnesota wants to entertain a modicum of hope, it must beat Nebraska."

Playoffs?!? Five games in, "contention" for anything isn't on my mind this year. We can still have a good season, but I don't think we'll be able to look back and consider it a good year if we don't beat one of Nebraska or Iowa. Both would be great, but ...

2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

I thought it was the other way around: Drake was not recruited until Petrino became the OC and got interested and made a late push. At any rate, Drake himself said Arkansas was never really interested, even late in the process, despite the rumors.
