I agree in general. For me the thrill left as they failed to continue bringing in elite D1 pitching. I'll still go to games, but elite pitching is the name of the game. Gophers won't excel without it.

FWIW I thought Brandner was the best all-round player (offense & defense) MN ever had until Oakland came along. So unexpected elite newcomers aren't unknown; they do exist. But a pickup in the circle like, say, Pease is highly unlikely. Some great and unexpected excellence by the present roster...

Does anyone have an idea how the program deals with losing the best player in the conference? Is there a SS waiting in the wings? Or any one who can hit 20 HRs?

I guess I've been pretty much out of it, but losing Oakland does not bode well for 2025. What was needed was players to complement the established core of the team, not to replace it.

Batting 3rd in the Gophers' lineup Friday evening, Krapf pounced on the first pitch thrown to her in the bottom of the first inning and hit a 3-run HR, a high towering drive to left-center. That was pretty much the story on offense as the Gophers beat St. Thomas 5-2. Difficult to judge a game...

Would be interesting to hear impressions from anyone attending today's Gopher double bill. Wish I could be there.

Gophers got 17 hits and beat Concordia St. Paul at Jane Sage Cowles yesterday. The score was a lopsided 13-3, but Concordia wasn't bad, just lacking anyone close to matching Oakland, Krapf, Valencia, and Chavez's bats, or Burnet's speed. Snippes started in the circle, but she was yanked in...

A cursory look at the Gophers' 2024 Big Ten schedule shows only 3 home series. Is that all there will be? Or are other non-conference series being scheduled indoors?

Here's hoping Fall Ball brings promising newcomers with big bats and above all else some dominant pitching. Anything pointing in those directions?

    Carter Raymond Commits to Minnesota

Sounds great! Love it! (I've been preaching top pitching for years here.)

Who is she? Any info? I've not heard of her before.

On 8/9/24, the Twins pregame TV show featured a nice segment of SS Oakland's hitting prowess, including positive comments on MN's coaching staff.

Maybe someone well-qualfied & willing to stick around to build for the future? Hope so.

I'm sorry but who is Jamie? and "What is happening with Stanford"?

Maybe it all matters. Maybe it doesn't. Allister leaves Minnesota for more money (and maybe other reasons we know nothing about). Canady leaves Stanford for more money (and maybe other reasons we know nothing about). Maybe some people in need somewhere will benefit from part of that money...

    Gopher Softball 2025

That approach feels to me like the Gophers shortchanging themselves. Why not set a goal of building the program to where MN plays, say, UCLA and beats them. Not an easy task, but why shrink from it?

One coach leaves, two new players transfer in. Hard to see if those changes are a big help. A really transformative improvement in the pitching staff, which is not at all impossible, is what the Gophers need above all else.

Yes, they return, but will they hit for power or average? Hope they do, doubt they will. Bat speed needs to get faster.

    Gopher Softball 2025

In addition to returning pitchers, in 2025 they need to find a no. 1 starting pitcher who can log lots of innings against elite teams, plus a good second-line catcher. They need to fill first base, second base, all three outfield positions, and DH. For all those positions they need players who...

    Gopher Softball 2024

I understand your points. They make sense. My sense is why didn't they start as early as 2014 when it must have been obvious they had a special coach. They could've fortified their position by planning in incentives. Of course, nothing is foolproof, but it amounted to another MN loss
