I agree in general. For me the thrill left as they failed to continue bringing in elite D1 pitching. I'll still go to games, but elite pitching is the name of the game. Gophers won't excel without it.

Does anyone have an idea how the program deals with losing the best player in the conference? Is there a SS waiting in the wings? Or any one who can hit 20 HRs?

I guess I've been pretty much out of it, but losing Oakland does not bode well for 2025. What was needed was players to complement the established core of the team, not to replace it.

A cursory look at the Gophers' 2024 Big Ten schedule shows only 3 home series. Is that all there will be? Or are other non-conference series being scheduled indoors?

Maybe it all matters. Maybe it doesn't. Allister leaves Minnesota for more money (and maybe other reasons we know nothing about). Canady leaves Stanford for more money (and maybe other reasons we know nothing about). Maybe some people in need somewhere will benefit from part of that money...

That approach feels to me like the Gophers shortchanging themselves. Why not set a goal of building the program to where MN plays, say, UCLA and beats them. Not an easy task, but why shrink from it?

One coach leaves, two new players transfer in. Hard to see if those changes are a big help. A really transformative improvement in the pitching staff, which is not at all impossible, is what the Gophers need above all else.

I understand your points. They make sense. My sense is why didn't they start as early as 2014 when it must have been obvious they had a special coach. They could've fortified their position by planning in incentives. Of course, nothing is foolproof, but it amounted to another MN loss
