    Game 1 takeaways

Good to have the win. Lots of pros already mentioned and I agree with. Cons: Tyler and Crooms seem tiny. Easily brought down and cannot extend forward. This doesn't take away from the reliable hands on Crooms but man he and Tyler seem small. Redding as a returner. He is not dynamic - slow. I...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS GOPHERS SPRING GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

He is not an effective hybrid/wildcat. He’s just big. At no point has he shown to be any type of dynamic runner. He is just big and plays QB.

    Jack Wilson commits

This is over the top. The team he coaches has absolutely sucked while he has been the coach. In both talent and preparation/coaching. If he made the elite 8, the team will not have sucked and people will be happy with the coach.

    Knuth No Longer with Team

He hasn't proven he can run well at all. He's just big. He runs about as well as he throws.

No year zero in Madison: 10-plus wins, Big Ten West title; Fickell embraces expectations

I hate WI more than any other team but aside from the last few years, they have absolutely decimated the Gophs. They made a top-notch coaching hire who can leverage his name to pull legit talent from the portal, and that's what he's done. The B1G West remains a very weak conference so I would be...

Jah Joyner and veteran, talent-rich DE room.

They aren’t getting pressure on the QB. Happy the defense is good statistically but that should be even better if we were closing. The rush also seems to be absent during the most crucial times. The pass rush has been bad and I hope it gets better next year but I’m not sold on why it should.

Jah Joyner and veteran, talent-rich DE room.

This is how I feel also. The Gophers have not had a really good rush end since Karon Riley. Vandesteeg had his moments. Otemewu and Mafe made the league on measureables. Bonkers how terrible our pass rush has been the past few decades. Just incredibly impotent. Joyner really the hope there...

Gophers’ Ben Johnson feels good about his core returning for 2023-24

Yeah I am not interested in and don't know enough about Euroball to have any awareness of skills translating. It is just fascinating that a team this historically terrible has pro-level players (for any league). Edit: cool to see the updates on other former Gophs playing still.

Gophers’ Ben Johnson feels good about his core returning for 2023-24

It's absolutely bonkers to me that a team this bad has two players people are worried about leaving for pro ball. I mean Garcia maybe but still crazy. I guess there are some low-level INTL orgs out there but it is just wild that there is anyone on this team that looks ready to play next-level.

Reusse: NIL funding for Gophers men's basketball stands at $0.00. Pitino's better off in Lobo Land, I'm guessing.

I don't expect to - that's why I was so severely disappointed with the Gophers football outcome this year. The way NIL is currently structured, the top 25 rankings (for both football and basketball) will start to very closely mirror the top 25 NIL spending. Most northern/progressive areas are...

This isn’t Oxford, MS and by every measure of quality of life nobody should want it to be. We’re never going to give large sums of money to third-party intermediaries to then turn around and give it to 17-22 year old kids. I have no problem buying tickets to games or events but I am not giving...

Winston DeLattiboudere — New D-Line Coach?

It’s also consistent scheduling of some of the worst offenses in P5, driven by the fact that we are in the West. I am not hating on the defense - happy to have competence. But our pass rush has been bad and context of opponents matter. Need better pass rush. Whether through personnel or...

Winston DeLattiboudere — New D-Line Coach?

I don’t think that is contended. But a QB rush is pivotal and the Gophs have been astonishingly weak and frail at this skill. Pass rushing will be more important now as the QBs in the B1G West should be much improved over last few years. Need to cause disruption.

Winston DeLattiboudere — New D-Line Coach?

Yeah I was picturing VanDeSteeg but kept coming up with the name Grant Wistrom. Willie was solid. Striggow may be a good contain end but he has shown no ability to rush. Hopefully Joyner can continue progression but our ability to develop talent at the position means we have to bet otherwise. A...

Winston DeLattiboudere — New D-Line Coach?

Hope Coach D is a good hire and can produce players that can actually rush the passer and create havoc during obvious passing downs, something we haven’t had here in forever. Mafe and Otemewu are good athletes with measurables but production didn’t match. Before them - really bleak. Last legit...

    What are we afraid of?

Yes it’s mostly just my opinion but the upper end of the B1G West (Iowa and WI most years, never the Gophs) is nowhere near the upper-end caliber of most other conferences. Maybe our middle-tier teams are “competitive”, but the conference as a whole has been weak. I think most college football...

    What are we afraid of?

It is extremely weak. It may be competitive among the teams but the overall strength of the B1G West is very poor.

Expectations vs Reality: My humble opinion on the state of the program and its future based on my own experiences with Gopher Football

And thank God for that. It might be fun to get housed on a Saturday morning but you do not want to live your life for Saturdays in places like Oxford, MS and such. Minnesotans are fans but most have lives with other priorities. The south doesn’t have a lot going for it and the ultra-fetish for...

Expectations vs Reality: My humble opinion on the state of the program and its future based on my own experiences with Gopher Football

I agree with this mostly but the losses haven’t been dumbfounding, they have been semi-often if not consistent. We haven’t ever won the weakest P5 division in football while Northwestern, Purdue, and Illinois have. We can win 8 games and claim above average but we don’t win when stakes are...
